Job Summary

Balu & Associates is looking for an experienced Senior Fire Fighting & Fire Alarm Design Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the design and engineering of fire protection systems for building projects.

The candidate should be capable of independently handling Fire Fighting and Fire Alarm system design, preparing detailed engineering drawings and calculations, coordinating with other MEP disciplines, and reviewing contractor submissions.

Key ResponsibilitiesFire Fighting System Design

- Design Fire Fighting systems including:
- Fire Hydrant Systems
- Sprinkler Systems
- Wet Riser / Dry Riser Systems
- Hose Reel Systems
- Fire Water Storage and Distribution Systems
- Fire Pump Room
- Prepare detailed Fire Fighting layouts, schematic diagrams and riser diagrams.
- Perform hydraulic calculations and select appropriate fire pumps and system components.
- Prepare BOQs, equipment schedules and technical specifications.
- Review contractor/shop drawings, material submittals and technical documents.
- Coordinate Fire Fighting designs with HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Structural and Architectural disciplines.
- Provide technical support during installation, testing and commissioning.

Fire Alarm System Design

- Design Addressable and Conventional Fire Alarm Systems.
- Prepare Fire Alarm layouts, schematic diagrams and riser diagrams.
- Design and coordinate:
- Smoke Detectors
- Heat Detectors
- Manual Call Points (MCP)
- Hooters / Sounders
- Strobe / Visual Indicators
- Fire Alarm Control Panels
- Input/Output Modules and interfaces
- Prepare Fire Alarm BOQs, equipment schedules and technical specifications.
- Coordinate Fire Alarm systems with Fire Fighting, HVAC,



Electrical and other MEP services.
- Review contractor/shop drawings and material submittals.
- Support testing, commissioning and troubleshooting activities.

Codes & Standards

Candidates should have good working knowledge of applicable:

- NBC – National Building Code
- NFPA Standards
- Relevant IS Standards
- Local Fire & Rescue Services / Fire Authority requirements
- Project specifications and applicable international standards

Required Skills & Qualifications

- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Civil, Fire & Safety Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in Fire Fighting and Fire Alarm system design.
- Strong knowledge of Fire Protection and MEP systems.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
- Ability to prepare detailed engineering drawings independently.
- Good knowledge of hydraulic calculations and fire pump selection.
- Good knowledge of NBC, NFPA and relevant IS Standards.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors and other MEP disciplines.

Preferred Candidate Profile

We are looking for a technically strong engineer who can independently handle fire protection design assignments from concept design through detailed design and project coordination.

Experience in MEP consultancy, fire protection consultancy or building services design will be preferred.
