About the Position The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus, invites applications for one position of Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Experimental and Computational Applied Mechanics. The fellow will work on stress analysis, composite structures and structural health monitoring, combining full-field optical experiments with finite element modelling. The role also includes interdisciplinary applications of solid mechanics in biomedical, energy, manufacturing and smart-material areas.

Roles and Responsibilities The fellow will carry out experimental stress analysis and mechanical testing using full-field optical methods such as photoelasticity and digital image correlation (DIC), strain gauges and standard ASTM/ISO tests, including the design of specimens and fixtures. The fellow will develop and validate finite element models of components and structures and correlate numerical predictions with experimental results.

The work also involves fabricating and characterising composite and advanced materials and investigating damage, fracture, fatigue and failure mechanisms. The fellow will develop structural health monitoring and non-destructive evaluation methods supported by inverse, image-processing and data-driven techniques, and contribute to interdisciplinary applications of solid mechanics in biomedical, energy, manufacturing and smart-material areas.

The fellow is expected to publish in high-impact journals, prepare funding proposals and patents, mentor students,

and deliver project reports and milestones on time.

Eligibility

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil (Structural), Applied Mechanics, Engineering Mechanics, Materials Engineering or a closely related discipline, with doctoral research in solid mechanics, experimental mechanics, computational mechanics, composite materials, structural health monitoring or mechanical design. Applicants should also hold an M.E./M.Tech. in Machine Design, Engineering Design, Applied/Engineering Mechanics, Structural Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Composite/Materials Engineering or an allied specialisation. Candidates who have submitted their Ph.D. thesis may also apply.

A strong record of publications in SCI/Scopus-indexed journals and hands-on experience in both experimental and numerical work are desirable.

Technical Skills The candidate should have robust fundamentals in solid mechanics, including elasticity, strength of materials, mechanics of composites, and fracture and fatigue.

Experience in experimental stress analysis using photoelasticity, DIC or strain gauges, and in mechanical testing as per ASTM/ISO standards, is expected. The candidate should be proficient in finite element analysis using ANSYS, ABAQUS or COMSOL and in CAD tools such as SolidWorks, CATIA or Creo. Programming skills in Python or MATLAB for data analysis and image processing, along with good research writing and publication skills, are required.
