Senior Software Engineer, Implementations
Team: Engineering, building tooling for the Implementation team
About Machinify
Machinify builds the AI operating system for healthcare payment intelligence, combining the minds of industry experts with the power of technology. US healthcare wastes billions of dollars a year inside the claims payment workflow, and Machinify has built a platform to fix that, backed by more than 40 years of payment integrity expertise and a product suite spanning the full claims lifecycle from pre-pay through post-pay. Today, 85+ customers rely on us, including 18 of the top 20 US health plans, covering more than 270 million member lives across commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid. We process over 3 petabytes of claims data and return more than $6 billion in savings and recoveries to our customers every year, with 99% customer retention.
Our Culture
We embrace complex challenges with curiosity, having genuine interest and drive to understand the hard problems at hand and how to move the needle forward. Our engineers empower each other to take action, learn deeply about our customers' needs, and unlock innovation with a strong sense of product ownership. We build with our users in mind, thoughtfully shipping outcomes, not just features. The technology we build shapes real healthcare decisions, demanding a high bar for engineering excellence and what we ship carries real weight. We pressure-test new AI tools, shape how they're used, and set the example for what disciplined, AI-driven engineering looks like: fast, but always under structured human oversight.
About the Role
In this role, you'll build the tools and applications that help our Implementation team bring new health plan clients onto Machinify quickly and reliably. You'll create tooling that lets teams set up and launch implementations on their own. Where no tool exists yet, you'll do the configuration directly through our APIs, then turn what you learn into new features that remove that manual work over time.
You'll also build and maintain the internal applications the Implementation team relies on every day, working directly with the people who use them and seeing your work in use quickly.
You'll work alongside AI coding agents as a core part of how you deliver, directing and reviewing their output while holding the bar on quality.
What You Will Own
- Build tools and automation that let the Implementation team configure and launch client implementations on their own.
- Configure the platform directly through our APIs when no tooling exists yet, and capture each repeatable step so it can be automated.
- Turn recurring manual configuration work into recent tools and features that reduce manual effort over time.
- Build and maintain the internal applications the Implementation team relies on every day.
- Partner with implementation managers and specialists to understand their workflows and turn their needs into clear technical designs.
- Review your peers' designs and code, and write automated tests that keep tooling reliable as clients and requirements change.
- Write runbooks and documentation so the Implementation team can use what you ship without coming back to engineering.
- Support what you ship by triaging issues and fixing defects.
- Deepen your understanding of the healthcare claims and payments domain.
- Lead the design of larger tools, set patterns for implementation tooling, and mentor teammates.
How the Levels Differ
Software Engineer
- Experience: 2 years building and shipping software tools, automation, or services.
- Scope: builds tools, automation, and internal applications; configures through APIs where no tool exists and automates the repeatable steps.
- Team: reviews peers' designs and code.
Senior Software Engineer
- Experience:
5 years building and shipping software tools, automation, or services.
- Scope: all of that, plus leads the design of larger tools and sets patterns for implementation tooling.
- Team: reviews peers' designs and code, and mentors teammates.
Qualifications
Required
- 5 years of experience building and shipping software tools, automation, or services.

- Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
- Experience building against and integrating with REST APIs.
- Experience automating complex, repeatable configuration or deployment tasks, such as with scripts, command-line tools, or infrastructure as code.
- Clear written communication, including technical designs, documentation, and runbooks.
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools in a real production setting.
- A service mindset. You treat the teams who use your tools as your customers, and you care about the outcome, not just the implementation.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with your engineering peers, implementation teams, and support teams.
- BS or MS in Computer Science (or equivalent experience).
Preferred
- Experience with TypeScript and frontend development, since some of our tools have web interfaces.
- Experience with Rust.
