Role: Lead Engineer - MongoDB &

- Database Platforms

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Engineer - MongoDB &

- Database Platforms to design, implement,

optimize, and govern enterprise-scale database solutions across cloud-native environments. The ideal candidate will be a MongoDB subject matter expert with strong experience in relational databases, database automation, cloud platforms, and software development practices.

This role will provide technical leadership for database architecture, performance engineering, security,

automation, operational excellence, and modernization initiatives supporting high-volume, mission-critical applications.

Required Experience

- 7+ years of overall IT experience with a strong focus on database engineering, administration, and cloud-based data platforms.
- 4+ years of hands-on experience with MongoDB administration, architecture, performance tuning,

and operations in enterprise environments.

- Experience managing large-scale MongoDB deployments including Atlas, DocumentDB,



self managed deployments, replica sets, sharding, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery.
- 3+ years of experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, or Oracle.
- Experience supporting highly available, mission-critical applications in production environments.
- Strong exposure to AWS cloud services and cloud-native architectures.
- Experience leading technical initiatives, mentoring engineers, and driving database best practices across multiple teams.

Technical Skills

MongoDB Expertise

- Deep understanding of MongoDB architecture, replica sets, sharding, indexing, aggregation framework, schema design, and performance optimization.
- Experience troubleshooting slow queries, connection management, capacity planning, and operational bottlenecks.
- Strong knowledge of MongoDB security, authentication mechanisms, encryption, auditing, and access controls.
- Experience with MongoDB Atlas administration, monitoring, ing, and cost optimization.
- Knowledge of MongoDB backup, disaster recovery, and high availability strategies.

Database Engineering

- Strong expertise in database design, data modeling, indexing strategies, partitioning, query optimization, and performance tuning.
- Experience defining enterprise database standards, governance practices, and operational frameworks.
- Strong understanding of database scalability, resiliency, and operational excellence.

Cloud &

- AWS

Hands-on experience with AWS services including:

- RDS, DocumentDB, Lambda, IAM, CloudWatch, S3, AWS GLUE, Secrets Manager
- Experience designing secure and scalable cloud-native database solutions.
- Understanding of cloud security, networking, observability, and infrastructure best practices.

Automation &

- Development

Programming/scripting experience in at-least one or more languages:

- Python, Java, Node.js, Go
- Experience developing database automation, operational tooling, and platform engineering solutions.
- Experience with database schema management and deployment automation using Liquibase,

Flyway, or similar platforms.

- Strong understanding of REST APIs and microservices architectures.
- Understanding on CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions/Jenkins/Azure DevOps/GitLab CI/CD or similar tools.

Preferred Qualifications

- MongoDB certification.
- Experience with DocumentDB/ DynamoDB/ Cassandra/ Couchbase, or other NoSQL technologies is a plus.
- Experience implementing FinOps and cloud cost optimization initiatives.
- Experience supporting retail, eCommerce, payment,



loyalty, or high-transaction platforms.
- Knowledge of data streaming technologies such as Kafka, Event Bridge, or Kinesis.
- Exposure to AI/ML and modern data platform architectures is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead MongoDB architecture, governance, security, and operational excellence initiatives.
- Design highly scalable database platforms supporting enterprise workloads.
- Drive database modernization and cloud adoption strategies.
- Establish database standards, best practices, automation frameworks, and reusable patterns.
- Identify performance bottlenecks and implement optimization recommendations.
- Automate database operations, deployment processes, and monitoring solutions.
- Partner with application, DevOps, SRE, RunOps and engineering teams to deliver resilient and secure solutions.
- Mentor engineers and act as the primary technical SME for MongoDB and database platforms.
- Drive cost optimization, capacity planning, and operational efficiency programs.
- Support production incidents and provide root-cause analysis for critical database issues.
