Tool Concept & Design: Independently develop progressive die concepts, tooling stages, and processing sequences based on customer component drawings.
Strip Layout & Calculations: Create efficient strip layouts to maximize material utilization and minimize scrap. Perform crucial calculations for press tonnage, cutting/forming forces, and punch-and-die clearances.
3D/2D CAD Modeling: Generate detailed 3D tool assemblies, individual component detailing, and 2D manufacturing drawings using CAD software like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, or UG NX.
DFM & Feasibility: Conduct Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) reviews during early project or RFQ stages.
Tool-Room Coordination: Work closely with toolmakers and machinists during tool fabrication, ensuring proper selection of tool steels,
standard parts, and heat treatment processes.
Tool Trials & Troubleshooting: Lead physical tool tryouts on presses, diagnose root causes for issues like burrs, misfeeds, or dimensional variations, and implement corrective actions.
Productivity & Life Improvement: Optimize existing tools for continuous improvement, cycle time reduction, and extended tool life.
