What exactly is the objective of this role?

We're looking for a an AI Engineer to join ConsumerAI. You will design, build, and run AI-powered product features that reach customers in production, turning models and LLM capabilities into reliable, safe, and cost-efficient services. This role suits someone with 5+ years of relevant experience who combines strong software engineering with a deep, practical understanding of modern AI systems.

What will be my Key Responsibilities?

- Design and ship AI-powered product features (LLMs, RAG, agents, ML APIs) into our existing services, working closely with backend, frontend, and data science teams, and take ownership of them from design through delivery and ongoing operation.

- Integrate off-the-shelf and in-house models (LLMs, embeddings, ML APIs) into robust microservices and user-facing flows, and apply sound integration patterns with third-party AI providers (such as OpenAI and Anthropic) and vector databases, including a model/MCP gateway where appropriate.
- Design and implement RAG and workflow/agent pipelines, covering retrieval, context assembly, tool integration, guardrails, and fallbacks, using multi-agent frameworks such as LangChain and LangGraph, and apply prompt and context engineering and, where it fits, LLM fine-tuning.
- Own AI service reliability in production, including latency, throughput, cost, observability, circuit breakers, and rollback and versioning of models and prompts, and optimise token usage to balance quality, latency, and cost.
- Collaborate with Data Scientists, who own model training, fine-tuning, and evaluation design, to productionise their outputs as stable APIs and workflows; build evaluation sets and automated evals, and use logging, feedback capture, and lightweight online evaluation hooks to measure and improve the quality of AI features over time.
- Ensure safety, security, and compliance for AI features, including prompt-injection defences, PII handling, abuse and hallucination controls, and audit trails.
- Contribute to internal AI tooling, such as SDKs, templates, and reusable components, to accelerate future AI use cases.
- Mentor teammates through code and design reviews, design discussions, and pairing, raising the bar for the whole team.

What we look for:

- Strong software engineering skills in Python and at least one of Node, Java, or Go, with hands-on experience building REST and gRPC APIs, working with queues, and developing microservices on cloud infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience shipping at least one AI-powered product to production (for example search, recommendations, chatbots, summarisation, or classification).
- Practical knowledge of LLM concepts, including prompts,

context engineering, embeddings, vector search, basic evaluation metrics, and latency and cost trade-offs.
- A solid understanding of integration patterns with third-party AI providers (such as OpenAI and Anthropic) and vector databases.
- Hands-on experience with, and a good understanding of, at least one agentic framework such as LangGraph.
- 5+ years of relevant experience and a B.Tech or equivalent qualification.

What will be nice to have?

- Experience fine-tuning and evaluating open-source LLMs, using techniques such as LoRA, distillation, and quantisation.
- Published research or open-source contributions in ML or NLP.
- Experience building with vector databases, search, and ranking systems at production scale.
- Familiarity with voice, speech, or conversational AI.

Why This Role?

- Build digital products from scratch on modern, cloud-native infrastructure.
- A real mandate to run lean and AI-first — not lip service, but how we actually operate.
- Influence at both ends — hands-on enough to matter in the detail, senior enough to shape strategy.
- A rapid, agile culture where releases ship quickly and your judgment drives the roadmap.

WITH THE RIGHT TEAM, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

If you're looking for an environment that's fun and friendly but incredibly fast-paced; a place where we measure the time between releases in days; a place where our focus begins and ends at the consumer, we'd love to have you!
