Chief Financial Officer
JOB DESCRIPTION | GROUP FINANCE
Location: Corporate Head Office, Kolkata New Town.
Role purpose
Lead SRMB’s finance function and partner with the promoters and Board as the Group seeks to double its business over the next 2–3 years and quadruple it over the next 6–8 years. The CFO will own financial strategy and day-to-day finance execution, securing capital for expansion while strengthening profitability, liquidity, governance and organizational capability.
The mandate combines manufacturing finance leadership with IPO preparation and execution, buy-side acquisitions, international joint ventures and disciplined capital allocation across the Group’s businesses and plants.
Essential qualifications and experience
- Qualification and seniority Chartered Accountant from ICAI with at least 22 years of post-qualification experience, including substantial senior finance leadership and direct ownership of the finance function and its decisions.
- Prior CFO responsibility Experience as CFO of a large manufacturing organization or group with annual turnover exceeding ₹5,000 crore. Candidates must demonstrate responsibility for that business scale, rather than association with a larger group in a limited functional or divisional capacity.
- IPO execution A significant hands-on role in an IPO, covering financial preparation, due diligence, governance, disclosures and coordination with merchant bankers, auditors and legal advisers. Personal execution responsibility must be demonstrable; employment in a company that completed an IPO is insufficient on its own.
- Buy-side acquisitions Personally led acquisitions from valuation and due diligence through structuring, negotiation, financing and closing to post-acquisition integration. Direct buyer-side responsibility is essential; transaction advisory experience alone does not meet this requirement.
- International partnerships Experience evaluating overseas JV or strategic partners, negotiating commercial and shareholder arrangements, structuring investments and addressing cross-border financial considerations.
- Funding and manufacturing finance Proven debt and equity fundraising, banking and project-finance experience, together with deep knowledge of plant costing, product profitability, inventory, working capital, treasury and major capex.
Preferred background
Investment banking experience followed by CFO leadership in a large manufacturing group, ideally in steel, metals or another capital-intensive, multi-plant business, with exposure to commodity cycles, plant economics and capacity expansion.
Key responsibilities
1. Financial strategy and capital allocation
Develop the financial roadmap for SRMB’s growth ambitions. Translate strategy into the Annual Operating Plan, budgets, rolling forecasts and long-term funding plans. Advise the promoters and Board on capital structure, leverage, liquidity and investment priorities, using profitability, cash generation, ROCE and risk-adjusted returns to guide decisions.
Evaluate greenfield and brownfield expansion, current products, markets, automation and other strategic investments. Challenge business-case assumptions, assess IRR and payback, and track project performance after investment against approved cost, timing and return expectations.
2. IPO readiness and execution
Lead the finance workstream for IPO readiness and execution in line with the Board-approved roadmap. Establish reliable financial information, reconciliations and supporting records; strengthen governance and reporting controls; and coordinate financial due diligence and disclosures with merchant bankers, auditors, legal advisers and other stakeholders.
Own finance deliverables, address diligence findings and support valuation, investor engagement and the transition to the reporting discipline expected of a listed company. Maintain clear accountability for execution milestones and information quality.
3. Buy side acquisitions and integration
Identify and evaluate acquisition opportunities with the promoters and business leadership. Lead financial modelling, valuation, due diligence and assessment of commercial, tax, funding and integration risks. Negotiate transaction economics and work with legal and other advisers on structuring, documentation and closing conditions.
Take responsibility for acquisition financing and closing readiness, then lead financial integration across reporting, controls, treasury, systems and working capital. Track integration milestones, synergy delivery and investment returns after completion.
4. International joint ventures and strategic partnerships
Assess overseas partners and partnership economics, negotiate commercial and shareholder arrangements, and structure investments with appropriate specialist advice. Evaluate cross-border funding, foreign-exchange exposure, tax, profit repatriation and governance considerations. Establish reporting, decision rights and financial controls for each approved partnership.
5. Fundraising treasury and working capital
Lead debt and equity fundraising, project financing and evaluation of alternative funding sources. Build effective relationships with banks, financial institutions, investors and credit-rating agencies. Negotiate funding terms, optimise the cost of capital and maintain disciplined leverage, covenant compliance and adequate liquidity buffers.
Own cash-flow forecasting and treasury risk management. Improve receivables, inventory and the cash-conversion cycle while maintaining sustainable supplier arrangements. Strengthen order-to-cash and procure-to-pay controls across entities and locations.
6. Manufacturing finance and commercial performance
Partner with plant, procurement, sales and operations leaders on raw-material mix, inventory valuation, yield, power and conversion costs, product profitability and contribution per tonne. Strengthen plant and product costing, analyze variances and support pricing, product mix and capacity-utilisation decisions with reliable commercial insight.
7. Reporting governance compliance and risk
Own timely and accurate financial reporting, consolidation, month-end and year-end close, reconciliations and Board-level MIS. Maintain compliance with applicable accounting standards, including Ind AS where applicable, and relevant corporate, tax and regulatory requirements. Lead audit coordination, tax planning and assessments, and finance support for material tax and commercial disputes with legal advisers.
Strengthen internal controls, delegation of authority, finance SOPs and risk management across liquidity, credit, commodity prices, interest rates and counterparties. Ensure timely closure of audit observations and prevent recurring control weaknesses.
8. SAP and finance process improvement
Lead finance participation in SAP implementation, stabilization and adoption, including finance-process design, costing, master data, reporting, reconciliations and controls. Improve integration between plant operations and finance, reduce manual interventions and establish clear ownership of data quality. Practical SAP experience and demonstrated finance-process improvement are required.
9. Leadership and promoter engagement
Build and develop a capable finance team, working constructively with existing colleagues and strengthening accountability and succession. Engage confidently with promoters and the Board, present clear recommendations and challenge assumptions with evidence. Combine strategic judgement with the willingness to examine operating details, visit plants regularly and personally drive execution.
Measures of success
Targets will be agreed against the approved business plan. Key measures will include funding availability and cost, liquidity and cash conversion, profitability and ROCE, capex returns, IPO readiness milestones, acquisition integration outcomes, reporting accuracy and timeliness, audit closure, SAP adoption and finance-team capability.
Location and commitment
This is a Kolkata-based corporate head office role with travel to plants and project locations. Candidates must be willing to relocate, where required, and demonstrate interest in a sustained leadership commitment to SRMB’s growth journey.
Information to include with the application
Please highlight CA qualification year; CFO roles and the annual turnover directly managed; personal IPO responsibilities; buy-side acquisitions led and integration outcomes; international JV experience; significant fundraising and capex assignments; SAP experience; current location; relocation readiness; and notice period.
