Senior Full-Stack Developer (PHP / Laravel / WordPress)
About Us
We are a security-first managed cloud and hosting company that has been delivering powerful, fully managed solutions to businesses of all sizes since 2007. For more than 18 years, we have helped startups, small businesses, hospitals, banks, and Fortune 500 companies run their websites, applications, and email without the hassle of managing underlying technology.
The company provides fully managed WordPress, secure cloud servers, and secure email services, all designed for high performance, superior reliability, and built-in advanced security with options for standards such as HIPAA and PCI. With an average uptime of 99.999%, proactive management that
covers security, performance, uptime, backups, and updates, and 30–60 second monitoring intervals, we enable customers to focus on their core business.
About The Role
We are looking for a senior PHP programmer with strong object-oriented programming fundamentals and hands-on depth in both Laravel and WordPress plugin development. You have built well-structured MVC applications and plugins that run on high-traffic websites, you know why they stay fast and secure under load, and you can explain what breaks when they don't. You can also decide which of the two is the right tool for a given problem.
This role carries two equally important responsibilities: new projects, which demand extensive Laravel and MVC skills, and our existing WordPress plugins and sites, including a family of custom plugins built on a shared core, which you will maintain and improve. In both, you will own large applications, not isolated tickets. So beyond writing the code, you will bring strong architecture and system design experience: shaping how these systems fit together, how they grow, and how they change without breaking the sites that depend on them.
This is a hands-on role. You will stay close to the code, directing Claude Code to write it and testing and reviewing what it produces, and you will carry the architecture decisions yourself.
Working Hours
This role works 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM US Central Time (7:30 PM to 4:30 AM IST). You must be comfortable working this shift on a regular basis.
Why Join Us
Your code runs where it matters. Your applications and plugins will serve high-traffic websites for hospitals, banks, and Fortune 500 companies.
Own large systems end to end. Design them, build them, ship them, and stay responsible for how they behave in production.
Practise security at a level few developers get to. Work on HIPAA- and PCI-grade systems, where secure coding is the daily standard. This experience is rare and valuable throughout a career.
Work AI-native, for real. We have standardised on Claude Code across the organisation. AI writes the code here, and you will help shape how the team gets the most from it. Join an engineering-led culture that values depth. We reward real technical mastery, backed by 18+ years of company stability and a 99.999% uptime track record.
Grow with a global team, long term. Collaborate with an international team on a stable, long term remote engagement.
How We Work
Security first, always. Security shapes how we design and write every system. It is not a phase at the end.
Spec- and intent-driven coding is our daily driver. Every piece of work with Claude Code starts from a clear statement of intent and a written specification. We invest in system design and planning up front, so we solve the right problem and avoid expensive rework. Standards are enforced, not suggested. Coding standards, static analysis, automated tests, and code review are part of how code gets shipped.
AI-native, but never AI-blind. Claude Code is our organisation-wide standard, and every developer is required to use it. We encourage developers to let AI write the code rather than writing it by hand. Nothing is published until it has been properly tested and reviewed, and every developer remains fully responsible for what they ship.
Depth is what sets our engineers apart. AI speeds up the routine parts. What makes a developer valuable here is a real command of architecture, object-oriented PHP, Laravel, and WordPress internals, enough to catch the mistakes AI quietly introduces.
We are proactive and meticulous. We pay close attention to what clients need, follow through without being chased, and own our work end to end.
What You'll Do
Build new projects in Laravel using a clean MVC architecture, and maintain them over the long term: controllers, Eloquent models, services, queues, events, and APIs.
Write well-structured object-oriented PHP, applying OOP principles, SOLID, and design patterns so large codebases stay maintainable and testable.
Maintain and improve our existing WordPress plugins and sites, including shared libraries and plugins that depend on each other, and build new custom plugins when needed,
keeping them reliable on high-traffic websites with the same object-oriented discipline.
Build the integrations between Laravel applications, WordPress, and third-party services. Lead the architecture and technical design of large applications: data models, plugin and service boundaries, integration points, caching, background processing, failure handling, and scaling. Document those decisions and the trade-offs behind them.
Turn client requirements into a clear technical design and specification before implementation starts.
Profile and fix performance problems across PHP, MySQL, and the caching layers, and prevent them from reaching production in the first place.
Apply secure PHP practices, Laravel conventions, and WordPress Coding Standards to everything you ship, and hold the code you review to the same bar.
Plan safe releases and upgrades: backward compatibility, data migrations on large tables, and rollback, across many live sites.
Design and integrate REST APIs and third-party services.
Build front-end features with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and customise WordPress sites using Divi, Avada, or Elementor.
Review code, mentor other developers, and raise the quality bar across the team. Use Claude Code every day to write code through spec- and intent-driven development: define the intent, write the specification, and have Claude Code implement it. Configure it well for each project, and make sure everything it produces is properly tested and reviewed against the specification before it is published.
Investigate and resolve production issues, then fix the underlying cause.
Communicate clearly in English with the team and, when needed, with customers. Required Qualifications
Experience
7+ years of professional software development, with a strong core in PHP.
5+ years of hands-on WordPress plugin development, including custom plugins you designed and built from scratch.
Plugins in production on high-traffic websites. You should be able to describe the traffic, what broke or nearly broke, and what you changed.
5+ years of hands-on Laravel development, including MVC applications you designed, built from scratch, and maintained in production.
PHP & Object-Oriented Programming
Advanced modern PHP (8.1+): namespaces, types, Composer, and debugging and profiling. Strong command of OOP concepts: encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism, abstraction, interfaces and traits, and composition over inheritance.
SOLID principles and design patterns, including knowing when a pattern adds needless complexity.
Version control and code review on GitHub in collaborative teams.
Laravel & MVC
Deep understanding of the MVC architecture, including keeping controllers thin and business logic in the right layer.
Hands-on Laravel: routing, middleware, the service container and providers, Eloquent and its relationships, migrations, queues and jobs, events, caching, and API resources. Laravel authentication and authorisation: guards, policies, and gates.
Automated testing of Laravel applications, with feature and unit tests.
WordPress & Front End
Deep knowledge of WordPress internals: the hook system and request lifecycle, WP_Query, the options and metadata APIs, the REST API, roles and capabilities, WP-Cron, and multisite. Plugin engineering discipline: activation and upgrade routines, schema changes, settings architecture, clean uninstall, conflict avoidance with other plugins and themes, internationalisation, and backward compatibility.
Hands-on experience with the Divi theme, Avada theme, or Elementor, including customising them and keeping the sites built on them fast.
Front-end skills to match: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Performance at Scale
Strong MySQL design and optimisation: indexing, reading query plans, and knowing when postmeta is the wrong place for data and a custom table is the right one.
Caching at every layer: object cache (Redis or Memcached), transients, page cache, and CDN, including how plugin code stays correct behind them.
Avoiding the common causes of slow applications: N+1 and unbounded queries, inefficient Eloquent use, oversized autoloaded options in WordPress, and slow external calls during a request.
Background processing and batch work that stays safe at volume (for example Action Scheduler, Laravel queues, WP-CLI).
Coding Standards & Testing
Proficiency in the WordPress Coding Standards for PHP, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, and in the inline documentation standards.
PSR standards and Laravel conventions for application code.
Enforcing standards with tooling: PHP_CodeSniffer with the WPCS rulesets and Laravel Pint, wired into local development and CI.
Writing tested code using PHPUnit or Pest, and static analysis such as PHPStan or Psalm.
Security
Expert application of security best practices for PHP applications, including the OWASP Top 10 and how each risk appears in real PHP code.
WordPress security in practice: validate and sanitise input, escape late on output, $wpdb- >prepare(), nonces paired with capability checks, REST permission_callback, safe file uploads, and protection against direct file access.
Laravel security in practice: request validation, mass-assignment protection, policies and gates, CSRF protection, and safe use of raw queries.
PHP security in practice:
SQL injection, XSS, CSRF, SSRF, insecure deserialisation, file inclusion, broken authentication and authorisation, and secure session and password handling. Secrets kept out of source code, and dependencies kept under control with tools such as composer audit and security scanners.
Reading a security finding, judging whether it is actually exploitable in your code, and fixing the cause.
Architecture & System Design
Demonstrable architecture experience: you have made the architecture decisions on a large application and lived with the results.
Designing systems for scale, availability, consistency, and failure, and explaining the trade-offs to engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
Managing and evolving large, long-lived codebases: dependency boundaries, shared libraries, versioning, and incremental refactoring and migration of legacy code.
Judging build vs. buy, and WordPress vs. Laravel, on the merits of the problem. Writing it down: design documents, architecture decisions, and runbooks that others can follow.
AI-Assisted Development
Claude Code is mandatory for every developer here. You should already use it, or be ready to adopt it fully as your daily tool, including project instructions (CLAUDE.md), permissions, MCP servers, hooks, skills, and subagents.
Spec- and intent-driven coding with AI: expressing intent clearly, writing specifications accurate enough for AI to implement, and working from them as your normal way of building software. Comfort with letting AI write the code rather than writing it by hand.
The discipline to test and review all AI-written code properly against the specification before it is published, and never to ship code you don't fully understand.
Hosting Fundamentals
A working understanding of where your code runs: Linux, Nginx or Apache, PHP-FPM, cPanel, and TLS, enough to diagnose production problems using logs and monitoring. Working knowledge of AWS, such as EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFront, and IAM. Working familiarity with CI/CD (GitHub Actions or similar) and Docker for local development and delivery.
Communication
Excellent English (reading, writing, and speaking), including explaining technical concepts to non technical stakeholders.
Comfortable working with a distributed, international team.
Nice to Have
WordPress VIP, enterprise WordPress, or large multisite experience.
Public plugins, or contributions to WordPress core or major open-source plugins. Load testing and profiling with tools such as Query Monitor, New Relic, Blackfire, or k6. Experience with compliance standards such as HIPAA and PCI DSS.
The WordPress block editor (Gutenberg).
Golang, Node.js, React.js, or Next.js.
Deeper cloud experience: AWS beyond the fundamentals, AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, or GCP.
Soft Skills & Attributes
Proactive Ownership: Spots problems before they are reported, follows through without being chased, and takes responsibility for systems end to end.
Meticulous & Responsive: Careful, thorough work, and a prompt, reliable response when colleagues or production systems need attention.
Security Mindset: Considers the security impact of every design and code decision by default. Technical Judgment: Makes well-reasoned decisions and can defend them, or change them when the evidence changes.
Technical Leadership: Raises the level of the people around them through reviews, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.
Continuous Learning: Stays current with PHP, Laravel, WordPress, web security, and AI assisted development.
What To Expect In The Interview
We want you to come prepared, so here is what the interview includes:
A live coding exercise with AI assistance. You will work on a coding task live, using AI, so we can see how you think, direct the AI, and check its output.
Technical questions. We will discuss your experience and technical knowledge in depth. Coding questions without AI. You will also answer some coding questions without any AI assistance, so we can see your own command of the fundamentals.
Connection requirements: You must have a stable internet connection and clear audio and video throughout the call. If your connection drops, or your audio or video is not clear, we may cancel the interview. A cancelled interview can be rescheduled only once.
