The successful candidate will work closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, Product Engineering, Sourcing, project engineers, toolmakers, resin suppliers, and external factories to ensure robust, scalable, and cost-effective injection molding processes that meet TE's quality, delivery, safety, and compliance requirements.
Job Requirements
- Lead injection molding process development, qualification, transfer, and implementation at external factories.
- Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM), mold-flow review, material selection, tolerance assessment, and Design for Cost (DFC) for molded components.
- Define tooling concepts, mold specifications, cavitation, gating, runner and hot-runner strategy, cooling, venting, ejection, steel selection, and tool-life requirements.
- Lead technical reviews with mold makers and suppliers from tool design release through trials, qualification, and production handover.
- Establish molding process flows, PFMEA,
control plans, work instructions, process windows, inspection plans, and validation requirements.
- Apply scientific molding and data-driven process development to establish repeatable settings and robust operating windows.
- Plan and execute mold trials and process qualifications, including dimensional, cosmetic, functional, and capability evaluations.
- Ensure manufacturing readiness for recent product launches, engineering changes, resin changes, mold transfers, and capacity expansions.
- Assess supplier capability covering molding machines, auxiliary equipment, tooling maintenance, metrology, automation, material handling, and technical staffing.
- Support machine sizing, clamp-force assessment, shot-size utilization, drying and material-handling strategy, cycle-time optimization, and capacity planning.
- Monitor process capability, yield, OEE, productivity, cycle time, scrap, regrind usage, tool downtime, and quality metrics.
- Drive resolution of molding defects such as flash, short shot, sink, warp, burn marks, splay, weld lines, voids, dimensional variation, and cosmetic defects.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action using 8D, DMAIC, Fishbone, 5-Why, DOE, SPC, and statistical tools.
- Drive mistake-proofing, process controls, cavity pressure or process monitoring where appropriate,
and preventive maintenance for molds and equipment.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams to achieve tooling, qualification, PPAP, and launch milestones.
- Drive continuous improvement using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to improve FPY, reduce scrap, shorten cycle time, and lower conversion cost.
