IFC’s strategic priorities in South Asia include focus on climate-related advisory and investment services. Given India’s rapid urbanization and its increasing vulnerability to climate change impacts, IFC is currently implementing a four-year Eco-Cities India program (majority funded by the European Union). This IFC program is developing and financing climate-smart interventions for urban infrastructure, buildings, and SMEs in five selected cities while supporting GoI’s goals for smart cities, energy-efficient buildings, and climate change mitigation/adaptation.
The Green Buildings India program is a key component of IFC’s climate change initiative. It aims to champion voluntary uptake of resource-efficient buildings given that more than 70% of the buildings that will exist in India in 2030 have yet to be built. IFC is currently recruiting an extended-term consultant (ETC) for managing and executing key activities under its comprehensive Green Buildings India Program.
