Key responsibilities
Transcribe dictations: They convert voice recordings from doctors and other healthcare specialists into written reports, which may include patient histories, operative reports, and discharge summaries.
Ensure accuracy: They edit reports for grammar, spelling, and to ensure that medical terminology is used correctly.
Clarify unclear information: They may need to contact the healthcare provider to clarify any confusing or unclear speech.
Edit speech-to-text reports: They often work with speech recognition software and must edit the automated text for accuracy.
Maintain confidentiality: They must adhere to strict confidentiality laws, such as HIPAA, to protect patient information.
Format and file documents: They format the final documents according to industry standards and file them into the correct locations, such as electronic health records.
