Reporting To: Shop Supervisor / Production Engineer

Job Summary

The Helper – Machine Shop & Assembly Shop is responsible for assisting machine operators, fitters, and assembly technicians in carrying out machining and assembly activities. The role involves material handling, cleaning, deburring, component movement, tool assistance, assembly support, and maintaining workplace safety and housekeeping in a heavy fabrication environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesMachine Shop Support

- Assist CNC/VMC, radial drilling, lathe, boring, and milling machine operators during production activities.
- Load and unload components using proper lifting equipment and tools.
- Clean machined parts and remove burrs, chips, and sharp edges.
- Assist in marking, measuring, and identification of components.
- Arrange raw materials and finished components at designated locations.
- Support machine operators in tool handling and change-over activities.
- Maintain cleanliness around machines and workstations.

Assembly Shop Support

- Assist fitters and assembly technicians during assembly and fit-up activities.
- Support alignment, positioning, clamping, and handling of fabricated components.
- Assist in bolt tightening, component cleaning, grinding, and finishing work.
- Help in shifting assembly parts using cranes, chain pulley blocks, and lifting tools.
- Ensure required tools, consumables, and materials are available for assembly operations.
- Support dismantling and reassembly activities when required.

General Responsibilities

- Follow daily work instructions issued by supervisors.




- Assist in maintaining production schedules and achieving daily targets.
- Segregate and dispose of scrap materials as per company procedures.
- Follow 5S and housekeeping standards in the shop floor area.
- Support preventive maintenance activities whenever required.

Required Skills

- Basic knowledge of machine shop and assembly operations.
- Ability to use hand tools such as spanners, hammers, grinders, files, and measuring tapes.
- Familiarity with heavy fabrication shop-floor activities.
- Ability to handle material movement safely.
- Understanding of workplace safety practices.
- Physically fit for shop-floor work and manual handling activities.

Safety Responsibilities

- Wear required PPE including safety shoes, helmet, hand gloves, safety goggles, and ear protection.
- Follow all machine shop and assembly shop safety procedures.
- Ensure safe handling of heavy components and equipment.
- Report unsafe conditions, equipment defects, and incidents immediately.
- Follow lifting and material handling guidelines at all times.

- Reduction in component damage and wastage.

Job Requirements

- Experience: 2-3 years in a machine shop, fabrication shop, or assembly shop.
- Qualification: SSC/HSC; ITI preferred.
- Physical Requirement: Ability to work on the shop floor, handle materials, and support assembly and machining activities.
