About the Role

KKR's Investment Systems group is growing its engineering presence in Gurugram, and we are looking for a seasoned engineering leader to anchor that effort. This is a rare opportunity to step into a high-impact, on-the-ground leadership role where you will shape the culture, capability, and trajectory of our India technology hub from the inside.

As Director of Engineering, you will be a core member of our global technology leadership team, reporting directly to the Managing Director of Investment Systems in New York. You will serve as the senior-most engineering presence for the group in Gurugram, responsible for both the day-to-day wellbeing of the team and the long-term growth of our India engineering capability. This is not a remote management role: your physical presence, visibility, and accessibility are central to what we need.

What You Will Do

People Leadership and Team Development

You will be the primary mentor, coach, and advocate for our Gurugram engineering team. Today that team numbers approximately ten engineers, most of them early in their careers. You will hold regular one-on-ones, provide structured feedback, support career development planning, and create an environment where people feel seen, challenged, and valued. You will work closely with our New York and Dublin-based Directors to ensure Gurugram engineers are fully integrated into team communications, project context, and strategic direction, not siloed from the broader organization.

Culture and Engagement

You will be responsible for building a strong, cohesive engineering culture in Gurugram. That means setting the standard for how the team operates, communicates, and supports one another. You will partner with HR and senior leadership to monitor team health, address engagement risks early, and champion initiatives that reinforce a sense of belonging and purpose within the global KKR Investment Systems team.

Technical Leadership

You will serve as the senior technical voice in the room for the Gurugram team. Engineers will look to you for architectural guidance, code quality standards, design review,



and sound engineering judgment. You should be credible and current in technology to earn the team's technical respect and help them grow.

Platform Ownership – KKR Invest

Beyond the people management mandate, you will directly own the build-out of a new platform engineering team in Gurugram to support the KKR Invest application. This is a greenfield opportunity to hire, structure, and lead a dedicated team with real product and platform ownership. You will define the team's scope and roadmap in close collaboration with New York and Dublin counterparts, and you will be accountable for delivery.

India Hiring and Talent Strategy

You will lead and coordinate all engineering hiring activity in Gurugram for Investment Systems. This includes partnering with HR and talent acquisition, defining role requirements alongside your global Director peers, conducting and calibrating interviews, and maintaining a consistent hiring bar. As the senior-most engineering leader on the ground, you will also be expected to represent KKR Investment Systems in the local technology market and help build our employer brand in India.

Cross-Regional Collaboration

You will act as a connective layer between Gurugram and our global teams. That means being proactive about information sharing, raising team concerns to leadership with appropriate context, and ensuring that time zone and geographic distance do not become excuses for misalignment. You will participate in global leadership forums and bring a Gurugram perspective to decisions that affect the team.

What We Are Looking For

- 15+ years of professional software engineering experience, including several years in a formal people leadership role managing teams of engineers across complex, distributed systems.
- Proven success leading and scaling globally distributed engineering teams, with a solid understanding of the dynamics of building culture and cohesion across time zones and geographies.
- Hands-on technical credibility across our core stack — including Python, TypeScript/React, and AWS — with the ability to provide meaningful architectural guidance, design review, and engineering standards oversight.
- Experienced in cloud-based platform design and delivery, with AWS experience strongly preferred.
- Solid understanding of database technologies (SQL and NoSQL), with familiarity in optimizing data models, caching, and performance at scale.




- Proficient in modern software development practices including CI/CD pipelines, version control workflows (GitHub), and automated testing.
- Proficient in leveraging AI tools within the developer workflow to enhance team productivity and quality.
- Empathetic people leader who takes retention, engagement, and career development seriously — as comfortable giving structured feedback in a one-on-one as reviewing a system design document.
- Proven ability to drive hiring efforts, calibrate interview processes, and maintain a consistent engineering bar across a growing organization.
- Effective communicator who can bridge time zones, keep distributed teams aligned, and translate technical context into clear business terms for senior stakeholders.
- Strategic thinker who values simplicity, automation, and measurable outcomes, with a proven record of ownership and delivery in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Curiosity and enthusiasm for finance and investment technology. Familiarity with the investment management lifecycle and the systems that support it is a plus.
