Details Mission and objectives UNESCO is an intergovernmental organization committed to fostering intellectual and moral solidarity for peace through cooperation in education culture the sciences and communication and information The organization is headquartered in Paris France and has a network of over 50 regional cluster and national field offices UNESCO New Delhi is presently designated as a Cluster Office and is a platform for delivery of activities in all areas of UNESCO s competence namely education the natural and social sciences culture communication and information It implements a biennial Cluster programme that is aligned with the overall goals of the Organization as defined in its quadrennial programme and budget and medium-term strategy The implementation of the cluster programme is undertaken through a fundamental operating principle - consultation and consensus with the National Commissions of the Member States Regional Bureaus civil society representatives and other stakeholders and partners The New Delhi Office is now mandated to cover six countries of South Asia Bangladesh Bhutan India Maldives Nepal and Sri Lanka Context The UN Volunteer will assist the Communication and Information Sector of the UNESCO New Delhi Regional Office for South Asia in the implementation of its programme in South Asia to achieve the above stated Organization s mission and objectives Task description Under the overall authority of the Director of UNESCO New Delhi Regional Office for South Asia and supervision of Advisor for Communication and Information the UN University Volunteer will undertake the following tasks 1 Assist in the organization and delivery of capacity building workshops and meeting of the CI programme projects related to freedom of express safety of journalists and media viability 2 Participate in monitoring and analysing delivery of programme activities and projects to ensure effective implementation and impact 3 Support research efforts and contribute to the CI sector s planning for new projects and activities including background research and data collection 4 Assist in drafting of reports on CI activities partnerships and achievements in the region 5 Create human-interest stories highlighting the impact of UNESCO s projects and initiatives across South Asia 6 Assist in the development of a communication plan in close coordination with the supervisor for all extra-budgetary projects ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and donor requirements 7 Assist in drafting press releases website articles social media content and speeches related to CI programme and events 8 Undertake any other task assignment by the supervisor Furthermore UN Volunteers are required to Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities for in-stance in events that mark International Volunteer Day Be acquainted with and build on traditional and or local forms of volunteerism in the host country Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking including participation in ongoing reflection activities Contribute articles write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications websites newsletters press releases etc Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible Requirements Demonstrated interest and or experience in communications and or international rela-tions Previous experience as a volunteer and or experience of another culture i e studies volunteer work internship would be highly regarded Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work in a multicultural environment Proficiency in English knowledge of additional South Asian languages is an asset Interest in freedom of expression media development and UNESCO s mandate in South Asia Competencies and values Accountability Adaptability and Flexibility Building Trust Commitment and Motivation Commitment to Continuous Learning Communication Creativity Ethics and Values Knowledge Sharing Professionalism Respect for Diversity Self-Management Technological Awareness Working in Teams Area s of expertise Communication Social work Development programmes Required education level Bachelor s degree Other information New Delhi as a duty station presents a agile and diverse environment The living condi-tions in this vibrant metropolis offer a mix of cultural richness historical significance and mod-ern amenities The city provides various housing options catering to different preferences and needs New Delhi s cosmopolitan atmosphere allows for easy integration into its multicultural society While the city boasts a range of international schools medical facilities and recrea-tional opportunities it is essential to be mindful of factors such as air quality and traffic con-gestion Additionally due diligence is essential especially when it comes to being cautious with street food and water As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his her own housing and other living essentials This position is based in New Delhi National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions
