We convene artists, craftspeople, architects, scholars, and global audiences around the extraordinary built workplace and craft traditions of Jodhpur and Rajasthan amplifying local creative voices while building durable connections with international cultural networks.n
Our expanding programme encompasses artist residencies, public exhibitions, community workshops, archival research, and an annual creative arts education initiative. We are committed to ensuring that the knowledge generated through our work is preserved, accessible, and translated into rigorous publications that serve practitioners, scholars, and educators worldwide.

Role Overview
nThis is a research-led, programme-facing role at the centre of Jodhpur Arts Weeks knowledge and archival infrastructure. The Researcher will lead original investigations into Jodhpurs artistic, craft, and architectural practices while building a digital archive that makes this knowledge globally accessible. The role bridges field research, archival practice, and editorial development,
contributing directly to research publications, programme documentation, and the intellectual identity of Jodhpur Arts Week.n
Key Working Relationships The Researcher will report to the Director & Founding Chairwoman and collaborate closely with:

- Creative Arts Education Coordinator documentation and archival development of education sessions and publications.
- Curators and programme teams ensuring research and archival material informs the curatorial direction and programming of Arts Week.

Key Responsibilities
n
- Research into Jodhpur Arts, Craft & Architectural Practices
- Conduct sustained field research with craftspeople, architects, urban historians, and contemporary practitioners across Jodhpur and the Marwar region.
- Document endangered craft traditions such as bandhani, blue pottery, leheriya, stone carving, lacquerwork, and textile weaving through interviews, oral histories, and visual documentation.
- Investigate Jodhpurs architectural heritagefrom Mehrangarh-era construction to vernacular haveli typologies and contemporary adaptations.
- Map relationships between craft practices, built environments, and community identity across the walled city and surrounding settlements.
- Contribute to national and international academic conversations on Rajasthani cultural heritage and craft studies.
- Identify research gaps and propose annual research priorities aligned with the programme calendar.
- Digital Archive Development & Global Access
- Lead the creation and stewardship of the Jodhpur Arts Week Digital Archive — a publicly accessible repository for research outputs, photographs, audio-visual documentation, oral histories, and programme records.
- Develop metadata and taxonomy frameworks suited to South Asian craft and architectural heritage while aligning with international archival standards (Dublin Core, IIIF, etc.).
- Ensure global accessibility through multilingual navigation (minimum English and Hindi) and mobile-responsive design.
- Manage digitisation of analogue materials held by craftspeople, families, and partner institutions with ethical consent protocols.
- Build relationships with international archival partners including museums, universities, and cultural foundations.
- Produce public-facing outputs from archive materials such as articles, image essays, and digital exhibitions.
- Creative Arts Education Programme — Archiving & Publication
- Document sessions of the Creative Arts Education Programme, including workshop activities, participant responses, and facilitator reflections.
- Develop a structured archive of session materials including transcripts, images, and recorded content.
- Work with the Director and editors to develop a publication based on this archive.
- Commission or produce essays, interviews, and contextual material exploring art education, craft pedagogy, and heritage transmission.
