Organisation Background:

The Akanksha Foundation is a 30+ year old non-profit organization with the mission to build innovative schools that will empower children & young adults from underserved communities and influence the ecosystem. Akanksha supports 14,600 students through the formal-school education program and 5,800

alumni from low-income backgrounds. Our 27 English-medium schools run in partnership with municipal corporations in Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur. We provide students from underserved communities a high-quality, holistic education at no cost. Our aim is to give students the knowledge, skills, and values they need to lead empowered lives, maximize their potential and break out of the cycle of poverty.

With a vision to scale our impact we codified our practices and, in 2022, joined forces with Nagpur

Municipal Corporation and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to take these practices to nearly 200

public schools under 'Project Setu'.

Position Summary:

The Finance Associate will be based in Nagpur and support day-to-day finance operations for schools in

Nagpur, including vendor payments, reimbursements, and documentation management. The role entails ensuring accurate accounting of expenses under correct expense ledgers, cost centres and donor codes tracking of utilization vs approved budgets, supporting donor audits and statutory compliances and working closely with school administrators on financial reviews.

Reporting: Finance Manager (Pune)

Location: Nagpur

Compensation: 4lpa - 4.6lpa

Detailed Responsibilities:

● Manage vendor payments and staff reimbursements on a day to day basis.





● Ensure that all supporting documentation for payments is complete, accurate, and properly authorised as per the organisation’s delegation matrix.

● Prepare quarterly utilization reports for Nagpur schools and other city budget owners and discuss variances and trends with the relevant stakeholders.

● Conduct monthly reviews with the school admins to support them in managing school expenses and enabling accurate accounting of the same.

● Visit schools on a regular basis to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the stakeholders in the schools.

● Maintain an updated and accurate Fixed Asset Register (FAR) for all Nagpur schools including ensuring assets are appropriately tagged by School Admins.

● Assist in compiling data and documentation for internal, statutory, and donor audits.

● Collaborate with the team to ensure the effective functioning of the Finance department.

What you need for this Position:

● Graduation in Commerce or Accounting.

● Minimum 2–3 years of experience in finance and accounting; experience in a non-profit organization will be preferred.

● Working knowledge of Income Tax, PF, PT, TDS and other statutory compliances applicable to non-government organizations.

● Familiarity with accounting software such as ERP systems, along with strong knowledge of MS Excel and MS Office applications.

● Ability to adapt quickly to new processes and changing requirements.

● Good communication skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
