Job Description Retail Inventory Auditor

Job Summary
The Retail Inventory Auditor is responsible for conducting physical stock audits across retail stores in Karnataka, verifying inventory accuracy, identifying stock discrepancies, and reconciling inventory records with system data. The role involves frequent travel to stores across Karnataka, coordination with store teams, preparation of audit reports, and ensuring adherence to inventory control processes and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
Stock Audit & Verification
- Conduct periodic and surprise physical stock audits at retail stores in Karnataka
- Verify inventory quantities against system records (POS).
- Identify stock variances, shrinkage, damages, pilferage, and process gaps.
- Ensure proper tagging, storage, and stock handling practices are followed.
Inventory Reconciliation
- Reconcile physical stock with system inventory records.
- Analyze discrepancies and coordinate with store teams for resolution.
- Validate inward and outward stock movements, transfers, and returns.
- Ensure proper documentation for stock adjustments and approvals.
Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare detailed audit reports with findings and recommendations.
- Highlight inventory risks, operational issues, and control weaknesses.
- Maintain audit records and submit reports within defined timelines.
- Ensure compliance with company inventory policies and SOPs.
Coordination & Process Improvement
- Work closely with Store Managers, Warehouse Teams, and Finance departments.
- Train store staff on inventory accuracy and stock control procedures.
- Suggest process improvements to minimize stock losses and improve accuracy.
- Support annual stock-taking and external audit requirements.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Solid knowledge of retail inventory management and stock audit procedures.
- Good analytical and reconciliation skills.
- Familiarity with ERP/POS systems and MS Excel.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in reporting.
- Ability to travel frequently to multiple store locations.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently and handle tight timelines.
Qualification & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- 2–5 years of experience in retail inventory auditing, stock control, or store auditing.
- Experience in footwear, apparel, FMCG, or retail industry preferred.
Preferred Knowledge
- Knowledge of stock reconciliation processes.
- Understanding of retail operations and warehouse management.
- Basic knowledge of audit documentation and compliance procedures.
Working Conditions
- Extensive travel to retail stores across Karnataka.
- Flexible working hours during stock audit periods.
- Ability to conduct physical verification of inventory items.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Inventory accuracy percentage.
- Reduction in stock variance/shrinkage.
- Timely completion of store audits.
- Accuracy of reconciliation reports.
