An ambulance driver is a certified, critical-response professional responsible for safely transporting patients, medical staff, and equipment to and from emergency locations or medical facilities. They ensure rapid, safe transport, maintain the vehicle and medical supplies, and assist EMTs/paramedics with patient care and moving
- Emergency Driving: Operating ambulances quickly and safely through traffic while following traffic regulations and using GPS tools.
- Patient Transport & Care: Assisting with moving patients via stretchers, loading/unloading them, and occasionally providing basic life support (CPR, first aid) during transport.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Checking the vehicle for fuel, oil, tire pressure, and operating conditions, as well as checking and restocking medical equipment/oxygen tanks before shifts.
- Sanitization:
Cleaning and disinfecting the ambulance interior to prevent infections after each patient transport.
- Documentation: Completing accurate trip sheets, logbooks, and accident reports
Required Skills and Qualifications
- License & Records: A valid driver's license (often Heavy Vehicle license) with a clean driving record.
- Certifications: Often requires Basic Life Support (BLS), CPR, and First Aid certification.
- Education: Minimum 10th pass or high school diploma.
- Attributes: Ability to remain calm under pressure, strong navigational skills, and positive communication skills.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to lift and move patients in restricted spaces
