Position: Counsellor (SIS)

Department: Multidisciplinary Rehabilitation – Psychology Unit
Location: APD
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Unit Head- Psychology / Senior Psychologist

Job Purpose

To provide counselling, psychosocial support, behavioural intervention, and rehabilitation services to children and adolescents with developmental disabilities, learning difficulties, behavioural challenges, and psychosocial concerns within Shradhanjali Integrated School (SIS) and rehabilitation programmes. The Counsellor will work closely with beneficiaries, families, schools, and multidisciplinary teams to enhance emotional well-being, participation, inclusion, and overall quality of life through evidence-based and family-centred interventions.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

1. Counselling & Rehabilitation Services

- Conduct psychosocial, behavioural, and functional assessments of beneficiaries.

- Provide individual and group counselling services for children, adolescents, and caregivers.

- Develop individualized intervention plans based on assessment findings and rehabilitation goals.

- Implement behavioural and psychosocial interventions to improve emotional regulation, adaptive behaviour, participation, and social functioning.

- Support beneficiaries with behavioural, emotional, educational, and social challenges.

- Conduct classroom observations and provide recommendations to support school inclusion.

- Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and rehabilitation planning.

- Manage assigned caseloads and ensure timely follow-up of beneficiaries.

2. Caregiver Support & Capacity Building

- Conduct parent and caregiver counselling sessions.

- Provide guidance on behaviour management, emotional support, home-based strategies, and developmental needs.

- Facilitate parent support groups and caregiver education programmes.

- Conduct awareness and sensitization sessions for families, schools, and community stakeholders.

- Support families in accessing appropriate rehabilitation and support services.

School Inclusion & Community-Based Services

- Coordinate with schools to support inclusive education and participation of children with disabilities.

- Conduct school visits and collaborate with teachers regarding behavioural and learning support strategies.

- Participate in community outreach programmes, awareness campaigns, screening camps, and inclusion initiatives.

- Support referral and follow-up mechanisms between schools, families, and rehabilitation services.

4. Documentation, Reporting & Compliance

- Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential beneficiary records.

- Ensure timely documentation of assessments, intervention plans, counselling sessions, progress notes, and follow-up reports.

- Update beneficiary information in organizational databases and digital systems.

- Prepare weekly, monthly, and annual reports on service delivery and beneficiary outcomes.

- Ensure compliance with departmental SOPs, quality standards, and audit requirements.

5. Monitoring & Outcome Tracking

- Monitor beneficiary progress against intervention goals.

- Conduct periodic reviews and reassessments.

- Maintain caseload tracking systems and follow-up schedules.

- Support data collection, analysis, and reporting for programme monitoring and evaluation.

- Contribute to documentation of beneficiary outcomes and success stories.

6. Learning, Research & Organizational Development

- Participate in professional development programmes and mandatory organizational trainings.

- Contribute to development of counselling resources, IEC materials, and awareness content.

- Support research activities, case studies, and programme documentation.





- Participate in departmental review meetings and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

- Master’s degree in psychology, Counselling Psychology, Rehabilitation Psychology, Social Work, or related field.

- Knowledge of developmental disabilities, child development, and counselling approaches.

Preferred

- 1–3 years of experience in counselling, rehabilitation, disability services, school-based interventions, or child development programmes.

- Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, Learning Disabilities (LD), Intellectual Disabilities (ID), and behavioural concerns.

- Experience in caregiver counselling and community-based rehabilitation settings.

Working Conditions

- Regular interaction with children, adolescents, caregivers, schools, and community stakeholders.

- School visits, home visits, and participation in outreach programmes and camps as required.

- Work within a multidisciplinary rehabilitation environment.

- Travel within programme areas may be required.
