Role: DGM Mechanical Maintenance (DRI)
Job Summary
The DGM Mechanical Maintenance (DRI) will be responsible for leading and managing all mechanical maintenance activities in the Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) Plant to ensure safe, reliable, and uninterrupted plant operations. The role involves planning preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance, improving equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, optimizing maintenance costs, and ensuring compliance with safety and statutory standards.
The ideal candidate should possess strong technical expertise in DRI process equipment, excellent leadership capabilities, and hands-on experience in maintaining high-capacity sponge iron manufacturing plants.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Maintenance Operations
- Lead complete mechanical maintenance activities for the DRI Plant including Kiln, Cooler, Raw Material Handling System, Product Handling System, Conveyors, Crushers, Screens, Hydraulic & Pneumatic Systems.
- Ensure maximum equipment availability and plant uptime.
- Plan and execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance schedules.
- Analyze recurring equipment failures and implement long-term corrective actions.
- Monitor equipment performance and recommend modifications to improve operational efficiency and reliability.
Breakdown & Shutdown Management
- Handle critical equipment breakdowns and ensure minimum production loss.
- Lead annual and scheduled shutdown planning and execution.
- Ensure timely availability of manpower, tools, spares, and consumables.
- Reduce downtime through effective maintenance planning and execution.
Equipment Reliability & Improvement
- Drive reliability improvement initiatives for all DRI mechanical equipment.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring failures.
- Monitor MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) and MTTR (Mean Time To Repair).
- Implement energy-saving, cost optimization, and productivity improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate with Production, Electrical, and Process teams for continuous improvement projects.
Spare Parts & Inventory Management
- Maintain optimum inventory levels of critical mechanical spares and consumables.
- Monitor spare consumption and control maintenance expenditure.
- Coordinate with Purchase and Stores for procurement of critical equipment and spares.
- Develop vendor partnerships for timely maintenance support and improved spare availability.
Team Management
- Lead and mentor maintenance engineers, supervisors, technicians, and contract manpower.
- Allocate responsibilities and monitor team performance.
- Conduct technical training and skill enhancement programs.
- Foster a culture of accountability, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to all safety standards, SOPs, and statutory regulations.
- Promote secure maintenance practices across the department.
- Conduct safety audits, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.
- Ensure compliance with ISO, TPM,
and other plant management systems.
Planning & Coordination
- Coordinate closely with Production, Electrical, Utility, and Projects teams.
- Participate in plant expansion, equipment modification, and commissioning activities.
- Prepare maintenance MIS reports, downtime analysis, KPI dashboards, and improvement plans.
- Support management in annual maintenance budgeting and resource planning.

Desired Candidate Profile
- Strong exposure to mechanical maintenance in Direct Reduced Iron (DRI)/Sponge Iron Plants.
- Hands-on experience in preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
- Sound knowledge of rotary kiln operations and associated mechanical systems.
- Experience in shutdown planning and execution.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent planning, coordination, and communication abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Educational Qualification
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
- Additional certifications in Maintenance Management, TPM, Reliability Engineering, or Condition Monitoring will be preferred.
