The role supports high-quality clinical care, community eye screening programs, and theatre-based cataract and anterior-segment procedures.
Primary Title: Consultant Ophthalmologist
Location: Attingal & Varkala, Kerala (On-site)
Role & Responsibilities
- Run daily outpatient clinics: perform comprehensive eye exams including slit-lamp biomicroscopy, refraction, IOP measurement, and indirect ophthalmoscopy to diagnose and manage anterior and posterior segment conditions.
- Perform and document surgical procedures—primarily cataract surgery (phacoemulsification) with IOL implantation—and manage peri-operative care to ensure optimal surgical outcomes.
- Interpret diagnostic imaging (OCT, fundus photography) to guide medical and surgical treatment plans and coordinate referrals for subspecialty care when required.
- Provide pre-operative assessment, post-operative follow-up, and urgent/emergency eye care as part of on-site clinical rotations and duty roster.
- Maintain accurate medical records, contribute to clinical audits and quality-improvement initiatives, and adhere to infection-control and theatre safety protocols.
- Lead community outreach and screening camps, mentor allied ophthalmic personnel,
and participate in patient education to improve community eye health.
Skills & Qualifications
Must-Have (technical skills & certifications)
- Phacoemulsification
- Slit-lamp biomicroscopy
- Indirect ophthalmoscopy
- Optical coherence tomography (OCT)
- YAG laser capsulotomy
- Intraocular lens (IOL) implantation
Preferred
- Exposure to retinal laser procedures (PRP) or basic vitreoretinal assessment
- Experience in pediatric refraction and squint evaluation
- Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems
Qualifications
- MBBS with MS/MD/DNB in Ophthalmology (or equivalent) and valid registration with the State Medical Council / NMC.
- Documented clinical experience performing independent cataract surgeries with demonstrable outcomes and surgical log.
- Valid medical license to practice in India and willingness to work in office at Attingal and Varkala locations.
