Role Purpose: The Head of Tax will lead and manage the companys direct tax strategy, compliance, litigation, and advisory functions. The role ensures full statutory compliance, tax efficiency, risk mitigation, and alignment with business objectives in a complex and evolving regulatory environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Tax Strategy, Planning and Optimisation
- Develop and implement tax-efficient structures aligned with business growth, mergers, expansions, and restructuring.
- Provide high-level advice to senior management (CEO, CFO, Board) on the tax implications of major business decisions, such as mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and capital structuring.
- Transfer Pricing (TP): Oversee all cross-border and inter-company transactions, ensuring TP documentation (including Master File and Local File) is prepared and filed accurately to comply with Indian and OECD BEPS regulations.
- Monitor changes in tax laws (Income Tax, GST, Transfer Pricing, etc.) and assess impact on the business.
2. Direct Taxation
- Ensure Income Tax compliance, including computation, ensuring timely and accurate filing of Corporate Income Tax (CIT) returns, manage advance tax computations and assessments.
- Manage Transfer Pricing documentation, benchmarking and tax audits by coordinating with statutory auditor of the company.
- Handle tax provisioning, deferred tax calculations and disclosures under Ind AS.
- Maintain robust systems for the correct deduction and deposit of Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) and Tax Collected at Source (TCS) on all payments (salaries, interest, qualified fees, etc.)
- Lead representation before tax authorities, appellate tribunals, and consultants.
3. Litigation & Risk Management
- Manage ongoing tax litigation, disputes, and notices across direct taxes.
- Identify tax risks and implement robust internal controls and SOPs.
- Manage and represent the company during tax assessments, inquiries, appeals, and litigation processes from Indian tax authorities.
4. Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements and timelines.
- Support internal and external audits related to tax matters.
- Strengthen tax governance, documentation, and internal review mechanisms.
5. Stakeholder Management
- External Liaison: Build and maintain effective relationships with external tax consultants, auditors (Big 4 firms), legal counsel, and regulatory authorities (CBDT, CBIC).
- Act as the primary point of contact for tax authorities, auditors, consultants, and regulators.
- Financial Reporting: Collaborate with the Finance team to accurately calculate and report Tax Provisions for financial statements (e.g., as per Ind AS/IFRS) and manage Deferred Tax Assets (DTA) and Liabilities (DTL) and also with internal team like legal, supply chain, and business teams.
6. Team Leadership
- Build, Lead, mentor, and develop a specialized team of tax professionals covering Direct Tax, Indirect Tax, and International Tax/Transfer Pricing domains.
- Drive process automation and efficiency using ERP and tax technology tools.

Qualifications
- Education: Must be a Chartered Accountant (CA) from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is almost mandatory. A supplementary qualification in law (e.g., LLB) or a Master’s degree in finance/taxation is highly preferred.
- 12–18+ years of progressive experience in corporate tax, with a minimum of 3-5 years in a leadership role, preferably in large Indian corporates, MNCs, or Big 4 firms
- Prior experience handling tax assessments and senior-level advisory
- Technical Skills: Deep, practical expertise in Direct Tax, International Taxation (DTAA, BEPS/Pillar Two) and Transfer Pricing.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional leadership, analytical, and negotiation skills, with the ability to communicate complex tax issues effectively to non-finance senior executives.
