The Works Manager in a tabular solutions manufacturing plant is responsible for overseeing the entire manufacturing process, ensuring the efficient production of tabular products such as Seamless Steel Tubes, Welded Tubes, Cold Formed Coupling Nuts, Fuel Injection Tubes etc. This role involves managing production schedules, ensuring quality standards,
optimizing processes, and maintaining a safe working environment. The Works Manager plays a crucial role in meeting customer demands, managing budgets, and driving continuous improvement across the plant maintain smooth and cordial industrial Relations.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Oversight:
o Supervise and coordinate all manufacturing operations to ensure timely and efficient production.
o Develop and implement production schedules to meet customer delivery requirements.
o Ensure that production targets are met while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Team Management:
o Lead and manage a team of supervisors, engineers, operators, and other production staff.
o Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team performance.
o Conduct regular performance evaluations and manage team dynamics effectively.
o Maintain cordial employee relations and create performance culture,
- Quality Assurance:
o Ensure that all tabular products meet the required specifications and quality standards.
o Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to resolve any quality-related issues.
o Implement quality control procedures and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Process Optimization:
o Identify and implement process improvements to enhance production efficiency and reduce waste. (furnaces)
o Utilize lean manufacturing techniques and other industry best practices to optimize operations.
o Monitor production processes and equipment performance, making adjustments as needed.
- Safety and Compliance:
o Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations within the plant.
o Conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective actions to address potential hazards.
o Promote a safety-first culture among all employees and provide ongoing safety training.
- Budget Management:
o Manage the plant’s operating budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
o Monitor and control production costs, identifying opportunities for cost savings.
o Prepare budget forecasts and provide regular financial reports to senior management.
- Inventory and Resource Management:
o Oversee inventory management to ensure the availability of raw materials and components.
o Coordinate with procurement to manage supply chain and vendor relationships effectively.
o Optimize resource utilization to minimize downtime and ensure uninterrupted production.
- Reporting and Documentation:
o Maintain accurate records of production data, including output, efficiency, and quality metrics.
o Prepare and present regular reports on production performance, challenges,
and achievements.
o Ensure all documentation is up-to-date and compliant with industry standards.
- Factory Compliance and government liaison.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering,
Metallurgist, or a related field. A Master’s degree or MBA is advantageous.
Experience:
o Minimum of 15 to 20 years of experience in a manufacturing setting,
ideally in the tabular solutions or similar industry.
o At least 10 years in a managerial role within a production environment.
Certifications:
o Lean Six Sigma certification or similar process improvement certification is highly desirable.
o Certification in industrial safety or manufacturing management is beneficial.
o IATF internal auditor / Lead Auditor
