Critical Patient Care

Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients in the ICU.

Patient Monitoring

Continuously monitor and assess patient condition and report significant changes promptly.

Medication Administration

Administer medications and treatments safely as prescribed.

Clinical Procedures

Perform and assist with critical care procedures and interventions.

Documentation

Maintain accurate and timely nursing records as per NABH standards.

Duties

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Critical Patient Care

- Provide direct nursing care to critically ill patients.
- Assess patient condition and prioritize nursing interventions.
- Maintain patient comfort, dignity, and safety.
- Assist in admission, transfer, and discharge of ICU patients.
- Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans.

2. Patient Monitoring

- Monitor vital signs, ECG, oxygen saturation, and neurological status.
- Observe and report changes in patient condition immediately.
- Monitor fluid balance, intake/output, and laboratory results.
- Recognize and respond to early signs of patient deterioration.

3. Medication Administration

- Administer medications following the "5 Rights" of medication administration.
- Prepare and manage IV medications and infusions.
- Monitor for adverse drug reactions and side effects.
- Maintain accurate medication administration records.

4. Clinical Procedures

- Perform IV cannulation, catheterization, suctioning, wound care, and other nursing procedures.
- Assist in intubation, central line insertion, and bedside procedures.
- Manage ventilated patients and oxygen therapy as per physician orders.
- Maintain aseptic techniques during all procedures.

5. Ventilator & Critical Care Equipment Management

- Monitor and care for patients on mechanical ventilation.




- Assist physicians and respiratory therapists in ventilator management.
- Operate and monitor infusion pumps, syringe pumps, cardiac monitors, and other ICU equipment.
- Report equipment malfunction immediately.

6. Documentation (NABH Focus)

- Maintain accurate nursing assessments and care records.
- Document treatments, interventions, medication administration, and patient responses.
- Ensure records are complete, timely, and audit-ready.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.

7. Infection Control & Patient Safety

- Follow ICU infection prevention and control protocols.
- Adhere to hand hygiene and PPE guidelines.
- Prevent healthcare-associated infections through evidence-based practices.
- Report incidents, near misses, and patient safety concerns.

8. Communication & Coordination

- Communicate effectively with physicians, multidisciplinary teams, patients, and relatives.
- Participate in ward rounds and shift handovers.
- Coordinate patient investigations, procedures, and referrals.
- Provide patient and family education when appropriate.

9. Emergency & Code Management

- Respond promptly to medical emergencies and code situations.
- Perform Basic Life Support (BLS) and assist in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Prepare emergency medications and equipment.
- Follow hospital emergency response protocols.

10. Quality & Training

- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.




- Attend ICU, NABH, infection control, and clinical training programs.
- Comply with hospital policies, protocols, and SOPs.
- Participate in audits and accreditation activities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Comprehensive knowledge of critical care nursing principles and practices.
- Knowledge of ventilator care, ECG monitoring, and emergency management.
- Ability to assess and prioritize critically ill patients.
- Competency in medication administration and critical care procedures.
- Knowledge of infection prevention and patient safety standards.
- Ability to operate ICU monitoring and life-support equipment.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make decisions during emergencies.
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation and records.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
- Ability to lift, transfer, and reposition patients safely.
- Ability to perform CPR and emergency procedures.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to function effectively in a high-stress critical care environment.

Education

Diploma in Nursing (GNM) or B.Sc. Nursing from a recognized institution and eligible for nursing registration.

Experience

ICU experience preferred. Freshers may be considered based on competency and training requirements.

Special Requirements, Licenses and Certifications

Valid Nursing Council Registration. BLS Certification mandatory. ACLS Certification preferred. ICU/Critical Care training certification preferred.

Pay: ₹18,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
