Position: Exothermic Welder

Reporting To: Site Engineer / QA/QC Supervisor

Job Summary

The Exothermic Welder shall be responsible for executing exothermic (thermite) welding works for the Electrical Earthing and Lightning Protection System of the Malé–Thilafushi Link (MTL) Project. The work shall be carried out in accordance with approved shop drawings, project specifications, approved method statements, manufacturer's installation procedures, and applicable Indian and International standards. The Exothermic Welder shall work under the supervision of the Site Engineer and QA/QC Supervisor to ensure permanent, reliable, and maintenance-free grounding connections.

Key Responsibilities

Execute exothermic (thermite) welding for electrical earthing and bonding systems.

Perform permanent grounding connections including:

Copper to Copper

Copper to Steel

Copper to Earth Rod

Copper to Reinforcement Steel

Copper to Structural Steel

Prepare conductors, moulds, welding powder, ignition materials, and accessories before carrying out the welding process.

Ensure moulds, welding tools, and equipment are clean, properly maintained, and suitable for use.

Execute exothermic welds strictly in accordance with the manufacturer's approved installation procedures.

Read and interpret earthing layouts, grounding drawings, shop drawings, and construction details.

Coordinate with the Site Engineer and QA/QC Supervisor during execution and inspections.

Rectify any defective or non-conforming welds identified during inspection.

Maintain records of completed exothermic welds, where required by the project.

Ensure all completed welds are ready for inspection, testing, and approval.





Educational Qualification

ITI/Diploma or equivalent technical qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related trade.

Experience

Minimum 5 years of proven experience in exothermic welding of electrical earthing and grounding systems.

Experience in Bridge, Highway, Airport, Metro, Utility, Industrial, Power Transmission, Renewable Energy, or other major Infrastructure Projects.

Experience working on international projects shall be an added advantage.

Mandatory Indian & International Certifications

The candidate shall possess valid certification(s) in Exothermic Welding issued by internationally or nationally recognized manufacturers or accredited training organizations.

International Certifications (Preferred)

nVent ERICO CADWELD Certified Installer/Training Certificate

ABB Furse Exothermic Welding Training Certificate

DEHN Exothermic Welding Training/Certification

OBO Bettermann Exothermic Welding Training/Certification

Equivalent certification from any internationally recognized exothermic welding manufacturer.

Indian Certifications

AXIS Electrical Components Exothermic Welding Certification

JMV LPS Limited Exothermic Welding Training/Certification

Axis Electricals Pvt. Ltd. Certified Exothermic Welding Training

Equivalent certification issued by any recognized Indian manufacturer of exothermic welding systems acceptable to the Engineer/Client.

Technical Knowledge

The candidate shall have sound knowledge of:

Exothermic welding techniques and installation procedures.

Electrical earthing,



bonding, and lightning protection systems.

Exothermic welding moulds, welding charges, clamps, accessories, and installation practices.

Reading and understanding electrical grounding layouts and construction drawings.

Permanent grounding connections for electrical installations.

Applicable Indian and International standards, including:

IEEE Std. 80 – Guide for Safety in AC Substation Grounding

IEEE Std. 837 – Qualifying Permanent Connections Used in Grounding

IEC 60364 – Low Voltage Electrical Installations

IEC 62561 – Lightning Protection System Components

IS 3043 – Code of Practice for Earthing

Skills & Competencies

Ability to execute high-quality exothermic welds with consistency.

Valuable understanding of grounding and bonding systems.

Ability to read engineering drawings and follow approved installation procedures.

Good coordination with Site Engineers, QA/QC personnel, and construction teams.

Strong attention to workmanship and quality requirements.

Ability to work independently and meet project schedules.

Physical Requirements

Physically fit to perform field installation activities under outdoor construction site conditions.

Able to handle exothermic welding equipment, moulds, conductors, and associated materials.

Selection Criteria

Preference will be given to candidates who:

Hold both Indian and International Exothermic Welding Certifications.

Have experience on large-scale bridge, highway, airport, metro, utility, or power infrastructure projects.

Demonstrate proven expertise in executing permanent exothermic grounding connections in compliance with project specifications and international standards.

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹38,444.35 per month
