Staff Nurse – NICU/PICU

Department

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) / Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Nursing In-Charge / Unit Head

Job Summary

The NICU/PICU Staff Nurse is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to critically ill neonates, infants, children, and pediatric patients. The nurse ensures safe, evidence-based, and compassionate patient care while collaborating with pediatricians, neonatologists, intensivists, and multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

· Assess, monitor, and document patients' clinical condition.

· Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and nutrition as prescribed.

· Monitor vital signs and recognize early signs of deterioration.

· Operate and monitor equipment such as ventilators, CPAP, HFNC, infusion pumps, syringe pumps, cardiac monitors, and incubators/radiant warmers.

· Assist physicians during emergency procedures, intubation, central line insertion, lumbar puncture, and resuscitation.

· Provide care for ventilated and critically ill neonates and pediatric patients.

· Maintain infection prevention and control practices.

· Perform neonatal and pediatric resuscitation according to established protocols.

· Maintain accurate nursing documentation and patient records.

· Educate and counsel parents/family members regarding patient care and discharge planning.

· Coordinate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.





· Ensure protected medication administration and adherence to hospital policies.

· Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and continuing education programs.

· Maintain patient confidentiality and ethical standards.

Qualification

· B.Sc. Nursing or GNM from a recognized nursing institution.

· Valid State Nursing Council Registration (Registered Nurse & Registered Midwife, where applicable).

Preferred

· Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing.

· Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).

· Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

· Basic Life Support (BLS).

· Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (preferred for PICU settings).

Experience

· NICU Staff Nurse

· Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a Level II/III NICU.

PICU Staff Nurse

· Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit or Critical Care Unit.

· Experience in caring for ventilated pediatric patients is preferred.

Required Skills

· Neonatal and pediatric patient assessment.

· Critical care nursing skills.

· Ventilator management.

· Medication administration and IV therapy.

· Emergency response and resuscitation.

· Infection prevention and control.

· Effective communication with families and healthcare teams.

· Time management and documentation.

· Ability to work in rotating shifts, weekends, and emergencies.

Working Conditions

· Rotational shifts

Pay: ₹8,636.19 - ₹72,417.56 per month
