Job Description: A Head of Department (HOD) for Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I;) in a steel manufacturing company is a senior-level position responsible for leading the maintenance, operations, and project activities for all electrical systems and process control instruments. This role ensures maximum plant availability, safety compliance, and efficiency in departments such as the Steel Melting Shop (SMS), Rolling Mill, and Captive Power Plant (CPP). Core Responsibilities

- Team Leadership & Management: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of E&I; engineers, supervisors, and technicians; plan manpower deployment and conduct training.
- Maintenance Planning & Strategy: Develop and execute preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance schedules for HT/LT switchgears, transformers, PLCs, VFDs, motors, and field instruments (pressure, temperature, flow sensors).
- Operational Reliability: Ensure 24/7 uptime of critical equipment in the Steel Melting Shop (SMS) and Continuous Casting Machine (CCM).
- Automation & Instrumentation Control: Oversee the smooth functioning of PLC/DCS/SCADA systems and calibrate process control instruments.
- Project Management & Modernization: Plan and execute electrical and instrumentation projects, including new installations, commissioning, and technology upgrades.
- Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to electrical safety standards (LOTO), statutory regulations (IE Rules, Factory Act), and environmental norms.




- Budgeting & Cost Control: Prepare yearly R&M; (Repair & Maintenance) budgets, manage spare parts inventory, and optimize costs.
- Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Lead the team in diagnosing and resolving complex E&I; issues during operations and emergencies.

Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Electrical/Instrumentation/Electronics Engineering.
- Experience: 15 to 25+ years of experience in E&I; maintenance in the steel industry or heavy process industry (DRI, Blast Furnace, Ferro-Alloys).
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of HT/LT power distribution, automation tools (Siemens/Allen-Bradley PLCs), VFDs, and SCADA systems.
