As wecontinue to expand our footprint across Africa and beyond, buildingthe right team across markets is critical to sustaining our growth.Role Overview We are looking for a Junior DevOps / PlatformEngineer to support the reliability, scalability, security, andoperational maturity of Workpay's cloud infrastructure. In thisrole, you will help support and improve our current Cloud Run-basedservices while assisting the team in maturing our GKE Autopilotenvironment for mission-critical workloads. You will work closelywith engineering, security, QA, and data teams and alongside seniorplatform engineers to improve deployment reliability, platformresilience, observability, infrastructure automation, andcompliance readiness. This is a hands-on role for someone early intheir DevOps career who is eager to operate production systems,build strong platform fundamentals, and grow into greater ownershipover time, with mentorship from senior engineers on the team. WhatYou Will Own Cloud Infrastructure and Platform Operations Helpmaintain, secure, and optimize Workpay's cloud infrastructureacross Google Cloud, Cloud Run, and GKE, under the guidance ofsenior engineers. Support improvements to the reliability andscalability of production services, including application runtimeenvironments, networking, service configuration, and infrastructureautomation. Assist in the transition of selected workloads fromserverless and VM-based environments into containerized andKubernetes-based platforms where appropriate. Reliability andAvailability Contribute to platform resilience through monitoring,alerting, incident response support, disaster recovery readiness,and post-incident reviews. Help support high availability andrecovery objectives for critical services, including payroll,payments, authentication, and compliance workflows. Supportreliability practices that improve uptime, reducedeployment-related incidents, and strengthen rollback and recoveryprocesses.



Infrastructure as Code and Automation Help build andmaintain infrastructure using Terraform and other automation tools,following established patterns. Contribute to reusable templates,standards, and deployment patterns that make it easier forengineering teams to ship safely and consistently. Support thereduction of manual operational work through automation,documentation, and self-service platform improvements. CI/CD andDeveloper Experience Support and help improve GitLab-based CI/CDworkflows alongside senior engineers. Work with engineering and QAteams to improve release confidence, deployment speed, environmentconsistency, and rollback readiness. Help embed quality, security,and operational checks into the delivery pipeline withoutunnecessarily slowing down product delivery. Observability andIncident Response Help maintain and improve observability acrosslogs, metrics, traces, and alerts using tools such as Prometheus,Grafana, Loki, Tempo, New Relic, or equivalent platforms. Supportresponse to infrastructure incidents, escalating complex issues tosenior engineers as needed. Contribute to post-incident actionsthat reduce repeat failures and improve system design. Security andCompliance Work with the security team to help embed secureinfrastructure practices across cloud identity, secrets management,configuration, network controls, and CI/CD pipelines. Supportcompliance requirements aligned to ISO 27001, SOC 2 readiness, dataprotection, and audit evidence collection. Help engineering teamsadopt security-first practices without creating unnecessarydelivery friction. Data and Stateful Workloads Support theoperational lifecycle of databases, caches, queues, andevent-driven infrastructure. Contribute to availability, backup,PITR, monitoring, and disaster recovery practices for critical dataservices. Exposure to PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, orequivalent systems is valuable. Experience Bachelor's degree inComputer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, orequivalent practical experience operating production cloudplatforms. 2–3 years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering,Site Reliability Engineering, Cloud Engineering,



or a similar role.Hands-on experience operating production systems on Google Cloud oranother major cloud provider. Some experience with containerizedworkloads and Kubernetes; exposure to GKE or GKE Autopilot is aplus. Exposure to serverless platforms such as Google Cloud Run orequivalent managed runtime environments. Working knowledge ofInfrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform. Experiencecontributing to CI/CD pipelines, preferably using GitLab CI/CD.Basic understanding of production observability, including metrics,logs, traces, dashboards, and alerting. Some exposure to supportingdatabases, caches, queues, or other stateful infrastructure inproduction environments. Foundational understanding of cloudsecurity practices, including IAM, secrets management, networkcontrols, and secure deployment practices. Ability to troubleshootproduction issues across application, infrastructure, network, anddatabase layers, with support from senior team members. Ability towork cross-functionally with engineering, security, QA, and datateams. Good documentation and communication skills. Nice to HaveExperience with Google cloudrun, GKE Autopilot in production.Experience with Kubernetes Operators such as CloudNativePG, PerconaOperator, or similar tooling. Experience with HashiCorp Vault,Consul, Kafka, Redis Sentinel, PostgreSQL high availability,MongoDB, or equivalent platforms. Experience supporting LaravelPHP, Java, or modernization of legacy applications. Experienceworking in FinTech, payroll, HRTech, payments, or regulated SaaSenvironments. Experience supporting ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR, orsimilar compliance requirements.
