Job Title: OT (Operation Theatre) Assistant
Department: Operation Theatre
Reports To: OT In-Charge / Nursing Superintendent / Surgeon

Job Summary

The OT Assistant is responsible for assisting surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in preparing and maintaining the operation theatre. The role involves ensuring the OT is clean, organized, and fully equipped while supporting patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare the operation theatre before surgical procedures.
- Assist in shifting patients to and from the OT safely.
- Arrange and transport surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Clean and disinfect the operation theatre according to hospital infection control protocols.
- Assist surgeons and OT nurses during surgeries as directed.
- Sterilize instruments and ensure availability of sterile supplies.
- Handle biomedical waste as per hospital policies.
- Maintain cleanliness of OT tables, lights, equipment, and surrounding areas.
- Check oxygen cylinders, suction machines, and other OT equipment before procedures.
- Ensure proper storage of surgical instruments and consumables.
- Report equipment malfunctions or shortages to the OT In-Charge.
- Follow infection prevention and patient safety guidelines.
- Assist in emergency and trauma cases whenever required.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.

Qualifications

- Minimum qualification:



10+2 (Higher Secondary) or equivalent.
- Certificate/Diploma in Operation Theatre Technology or Healthcare Assistant is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of infection control and OT procedures.
- candidates with 1–2 years of OT experience may apply.

- Basic knowledge of operation theatre protocols.
- Valuable communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations.
- Physical fitness to assist in patient handling and equipment movement.
- Attention to detail and cleanliness.
- Willingness to work in shifts, weekends, and on-call duties.

Working Conditions

- Hospital Operation Theatre environment.
- Rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Exposure to surgical procedures, blood, body fluids, and disinfectants with appropriate PPE.
