Location: Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin Building, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QU, United Kingdom ? Position Available: Research Assistant – Neuronal Cell Biologist ? Research Area: Neuroscience | Cell Biology | Molecular Biology | Parkinson’s Disease | Stem Cell Research | Neurodegeneration | Cellular Imaging The Department of Physiology, Anatomy & Genetics (DPAG), University of Oxford, is inviting applications for a Research Assistant – Neuronal Cell Biologist to join the Laboratory of Molecular Neurodegeneration. This exciting opportunity focuses on studying Parkinson’s disease using human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived neurons and advanced cellular imaging approaches. The appointment is full-time and fixed-term for 17 months starting 1 September 2026. ? What You’ll Work On Parkinson’s Disease Research Investigate dopamine dynamics and cellular phenotypes in Parkinson’s disease using human iPSC-derived neuronal models.
Human Neuronal Cell Culture
Maintain, culture, and differentiate human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) into dopaminergic neurons for research studies. Cellular & Molecular Imaging Apply advanced cellular and molecular imaging techniques to assess neuronal function and disease-associated phenotypes.
Experimental Research
Evaluate the effects of small molecules on neuronal cell biology and Parkinson’s disease cellular models using image-based assays.
Scientific Data Analysis
Collect, analyze, interpret, and present experimental data while contributing to scientific reports, publications, and conference presentations.
Cooperative Research
Work closely with multidisciplinary researchers, contribute to project planning, develop new research ideas, and optimize experimental methodologies. ? Ideal Candidates You hold or are close to completing a B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Neuroscience, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline. You have laboratory experience in human neuronal cell culture, preferably involving human pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). You possess experience with cellular assays, particularly image-based experimental techniques.
Knowledge of neurodegenerative diseases, especially Parkinson’s disease, will be an advantage. You have solid IT skills, excellent communication abilities, and enjoy working collaboratively in multidisciplinary research teams. ? What You’ll Gain Opportunity to work at one of the world’s leading research universities.
Hands-on experience in stem cell biology, neuronal differentiation, and Parkinson’s disease research.
Exposure to cutting-edge molecular imaging and neurodegeneration research.
