Department: Production – Wedge Wire Screens Reporting To: Director Team Size Managed: 3–5 production staff Experience Required: Minimum 3 years in a relevant production/fabrication role Work Schedule: 6 days a week, on the production floor L About the Role This is a hands-on floor role, not a desk-bound managerial one. We need someone who can personally operate our main wedge wire screen production machine, weld and fabricate to spec, AND supervise a team of 3-5 on the floor — all in the same day. If you're primarily an office-based production planner or a pure people-manager with no machine/welding background, this role isn't the right fit.
The ideal candidate has a mechanical background, reads technical drawings fluently, understands welding and fabrication principles at a working level, and can run the floor with the same team discipline they'd expect from themselves.
Key Responsibilities Technical / Hands-On Read and interpret GA (General Arrangement) drawings and technical specifications to determine screen design — slot opening, wire profile/gauge, pitch, support rod spacing, OD/ID, and length Operate the main wedge wire screen production machine directly Perform welding and fabrication work per required standards, applying sound welding principles (joint type, penetration, welding sequence) Set and monitor key process parameters for each production run, including: Welding current and voltage Welding strength / joint integrity (weld pull-off or bend testing where applicable) Pressure settings Temperature settings Wire tension and feed rate Maintain a written/digital log of the above settings for every run, batch,
or shift Troubleshoot machine faults and production/quality deviations in real time Conduct in-process and final quality checks against drawing tolerances Supervisory / Management Supervise and coordinate a team of 3–5 production staff within the wedge wire division Allocate daily tasks and monitor individual and team productivity Train team members on machine operation, welding practices, drawing interpretation, and quality standards Maintain production logs, machine setting records, and shift reports Ensure safety protocols (PPE, welding safety, machine guarding) are followed on the floor at all times Coordinate with other departments (planning, dispatch, quality) as needed Required Qualifications &
Skills Educational background: Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent technical qualification) Experience: Minimum 5 years in a relevant production/fabrication role, including some experience supervising others Technical skills (mandatory): Working knowledge of welding and fabrication principles (joint design, weld sequencing, current/voltage settings, strength/joint-integrity verification) Ability to read and interpret GA (General Arrangement) drawings and technical specification sheets Hands-on experience operating wire-forming/screen-producing machinery (wedge wire experience strongly preferred) Comfortable monitoring and logging process parameters — pressure, temperature, welding current, wire tension — as a routine part of the job Managerial skills: Prior experience supervising a small production team (3-5 people) Ability to maintain discipline, accountability, and motivation on the floor Other: Willingness to work 6 days a week, actively on the production floor for most of the shift Comfortable with welding/floor conditions (heat, PPE, noise) as a daily norm Attention to detail, especially in maintaining accurate machine setting logs Problem-solving mindset for day-to-day production issues Preferred Experience Prior experience in wire mesh, wedge wire screen, filtration equipment, or similar metal fabrication industries Experience managing both people and machines simultaneously (working supervisor background, not purely administrative)
