Job Purpose The Production Head is responsible for the end-to-end planning, execution, monitoring, and continuous improvement of all production activities in the Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) environment. The role ensures timely delivery of customer orders by optimizing production resources, improving productivity, maintaining quality standards, 6S, ensuring statutory and safety compliance, and achieving operational excellence while meeting business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Planning & Execution
- Ensure customer requirements are fulfilled On Time In Full (OTIF) as per the committed sales plan.
- Review pending work orders and prepare production plans based on customer priorities and manufacturing capacity.
- Ensure weekly and monthly production plans are reviewed and approved.
- Monitor production progress and ensure work orders are executed as per schedule.
- Coordinate with Plant PPC and BU PPC to resolve production constraints and improve manufacturing efficiency.
- Review production completion dates, material availability, and 4M (Man, Machine, Material, Method) readiness.
- Ensure optimum utilization of manufacturing capacity across SMD, Through-Hole (TH), Manual Assembly, Testing, Cable Harness, Box Build, and supporting processes.
- Achieve production targets by implementing contingency plans whenever deviations occur.
2. Production Operations Management
- Develop and execute production schedules aligned with customer demand, installed capacity, and business priorities.
- Monitor daily production output and ensure achievement of shift-wise production targets.
- Maintain 100% Input-Output accountability.
- Identify production bottlenecks and work with Industrial Engineering (IE), PPC, Maintenance, and Quality teams for corrective actions.
- Ensure smooth workflow and resource allocation across all manufacturing lines.
3. Quality Management
- Ensure all products meet customer specifications and internal quality standards.
- Review daily rejection reports, SPC trends, and First Pass Yield (FPY).
- Drive reduction of defects, rework, and Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ).
- Ensure closure of NCRs, Process Audits, and System Audit findings.
- Review customer complaints and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Maintain work instructions, process discipline, and quality compliance across production.
4. Resource Management
- Optimize manpower, machines, materials, and production infrastructure for maximum productivity.
- Improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and Overall Labor Effectiveness (OLE).
- Coordinate with Maintenance to ensure preventive maintenance and minimize machine downtime.
- Ensure adequate material availability to avoid production interruptions.
5. Team Leadership & Employee Engagement
- Lead, mentor, and develop production teams to achieve operational excellence.
- Build a high-performance culture through coaching, performance management, and employee development.
- Encourage participation in Kaizen, Lean initiatives, QCFI, CII, and continuous improvement programs.
- Promote employee engagement through company initiatives and cross-functional collaboration.
- Review committee action items and ensure timely closure.
- Encourage innovation, employee suggestions, and continuous improvement.
- Support Emergency Response Teams (ERT), Disaster Recovery Teams (DRT), and ESG initiatives across the plant.
6. Cost Management
- Monitor production costs and implement cost reduction initiatives.
- Reduce TIMWOOD wastes through Lean Manufacturing practices.
- Minimize excess material consumption, consumable costs, and production losses.
- Improve productivity through automation and process optimization.
- Control manufacturing overheads while maintaining quality and delivery performance.
- Monitor the cost of manpower on sales.
7. Process Improvement
- Drive Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TPM, and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and capacity enhancement.
- Improve production efficiency, cycle time, productivity, and throughput.
- Support digital manufacturing and Industry 4.0 initiatives wherever applicable.
8. Cross Functional Coordination
- Work closely with PPC, Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Maintenance, EHS, Stores, and Customer Support teams.
- Resolve production constraints impacting delivery commitments.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) and engineering change implementation.
9. Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with EHS policies, statutory requirements, and company safety procedures.
- Promote safe working practices across all production areas.
- Ensure implementation of 6S standards and closure of audit observations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and protected manufacturing environment.
10. Performance Monitoring & Reporting
- Track and review production KPIs on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Present production performance reports to Plant Head and senior management.
- Escalate critical issues impacting customer delivery, quality, or productivity.
- Drive action plans to improve operational performance.
Qualification
- Bachelor's Degree in Electronics, Electrical,Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.
- Master's Degree/MBA in Operations Management is preferred.
Experience
- 12 18 years of experience in Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS), with at least 5 years in a senior production leadership role.
- Experience managing high-volume SMT, Through-Hole Assembly, Box Build, Testing, and System Integration operations.
