Product Head – Auto Ancillary (Automobile)
Function Purpose To lead and grow the Auto Ancillary Insurance business by developing tailored insurance solutions and driving profitable growth within the automotive and auto components sector.
Role Purpose The Product Head – Auto Ancillary (Automobile) will be responsible for leading the Automobile Insurance Practice at ARIBL by designing comprehensive insurance and risk management solutions for automotive OEMs, auto component manufacturers, Tier-I and Tier-II suppliers, electric vehicle (EV) component manufacturers, battery manufacturers, dealers, distributors, logistics providers, and export-oriented automotive businesses. The incumbent will collaborate with clients, insurers, risk engineers, and internal business teams to deliver specialized insurance solutions that address manufacturing, operational, supply chain, product liability, and business continuity risks.
Key Expectations of the Role
Product Strategy & Development
- Develop and execute the insurance product strategy for the Automobile & Auto Ancillary sector.
- Design customized insurance programs for automotive manufacturers, component suppliers, and allied industries.
- Identify emerging risks, technological advancements, and industry trends impacting the automobile sector.
- Develop cutting-edge insurance solutions for electric vehicles (EVs), battery manufacturers, mobility solutions, and automotive technology companies.
Business Development
- Drive business acquisition across automotive OEMs, auto ancillary companies, EV manufacturers, component manufacturers, dealerships, and logistics providers.
- Partner with Corporate Sales teams during client meetings, presentations, and proposal discussions.
- Build strong relationships with CXOs, Plant Heads, Manufacturing Heads, Supply Chain Heads, Risk Managers, and CFOs.
- Achieve annual premium, revenue, and profitability targets.
Technical Risk Advisory
- Assess manufacturing, operational, warehouse, supply chain, and logistics risks.
- Recommend appropriate insurance coverage for manufacturing plants, machinery, inventory, exports,
and product liability.
- Review contracts, customer agreements, and vendor obligations to ensure adequate insurance protection.
- Support underwriting and placement of large and complex industrial risks.
Insurer & Relationship Management
- Build strategic relationships with domestic and international insurers.
- Negotiate policy terms, pricing, deductibles, and coverage enhancements.
- Coordinate with underwriting teams to structure customized insurance programs.
Claims Advisory
- Support clients during major property damage, machinery breakdown, product liability, recall, transit, and business interruption claims.
- Coordinate with insurers, surveyors, legal advisors, and claims specialists.
- Ensure timely claim resolution and client satisfaction.
Market Intelligence
- Monitor developments in the automobile industry, EV ecosystem, manufacturing technologies, regulatory changes, and insurance market trends.
- Benchmark insurance solutions against industry best practices.
- Recommend product enhancements based on evolving client requirements.
Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor the Automobile Product Team.
- Conduct technical training programs for Sales, Placement, Claims, and Servicing teams.
- Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), technical manuals, and product documentation.
Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with Sales, Claims, Placement, Legal, Compliance, Risk Engineering, and Operations teams.
- Build relationships with OEMs, suppliers, automotive associations, insurers, consultants, and industry stakeholders.
Competencies Required for the Role
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of EB (Health, Life, PA) and Non-EB (Property, Marine, Engineering, Liability, etc.) insurance products,
underwriting principles, and market dynamics.
- Negotiation & Influencing: Strong negotiation skills to secure favorable terms and manage complex discussions with senior insurer representatives.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to align placement strategies with business growth objectives and changing market trends.
- Relationship Management: Proven ability to build and sustain high-value relationships with insurers, underwriters, and internal stakeholders.
- Leadership & Team Management: Capable of leading a diverse team, setting performance standards, and developing talent.
- Analytical & Decision-Making Skills: Strong analytical ability to interpret data, assess risk profiles, and recommend optimal placement structures.
- Compliance & Governance Orientation: Thorough understanding of regulatory frameworks (IRDAI guidelines) and adherence to compliance norms.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective engagement with clients, insurers, and internal teams.
Personal Qualifications
Highest Qualification Preferred
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering , Automobile Engineering , Production Engineering , or Industrial Engineering from a recognized university.
- MBA (Operations/Marketing/Finance/Industrial Management) from a reputed institute.
Preferred Certifications
- IRDAI Certification
- Associate/Fellow of Insurance Institute of India (III)
- Risk Management Certifications (preferred)
- Automotive Quality Certifications (preferred)
Experience
- 15–20+ years of overall professional experience.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Automobile Manufacturing, Auto Components, Insurance Broking, General Insurance, Industrial Risk Management, or Risk Advisory.
- Minimum 5 years in a Product Head, Practice Head, Vertical Head, or Leadership role.
- Proven experience in managing insurance programs for automotive OEMs, auto ancillary manufacturers, EV manufacturers, battery manufacturers, component suppliers, dealerships, or logistics companies.
