Role Summary We are looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to own the technical delivery of our precast projects from first enquiry to final erection. This is a hands-on senior position, not a supervisory one. You will prepare the structural calculations yourself, build the preliminary design and quantity basis that our estimation team prices from, and stay accountable for the technical correctness of every drawing that leaves the design office.
Alongside the design work, you will be the technical point of contact for the client and the client's consultants, and you will work closely with the production and erection teams so that what is designed can be cast, handled and installed efficiently. The role is based at our Sehore manufacturing facility so that this coordination happens on the shop floor rather than over email. The role carries real commercial weight.

Structural
Design and Calculations
- Prepare and own structural design calculations for precast concrete systems across industrial, commercial, residential, infrastructure and defence projects.
- Design foundations, columns, beams, wall panels, hollow-core and double-T slabs, staircases, retaining walls, culverts, blast-resistant elements and bespoke precast units.
- Carry out analysis and design in accordance with applicable IS Codes, and with ACI, Eurocode or BS standards where the project demands.
- Design and verify connections, and check lifting, demoulding, storage, transportation and erection load cases for every element.
- Issue design basis reports and calculation sheets in a form that can be submitted to clients, consultants and third-party proof checkers without rework. 2.
Preliminary
Proposals and Estimation Support
- Interpret architectural drawings and tender documents to develop preliminary precast schemes and element breakdowns.
- Produce concept-level panelisation, element sizing and preliminary quantities that the estimation team can price against.
- Advise on the most economical structural system for each enquiry, comparing precast options against each other and against cast-in-situ where relevant.
- Flag technical risks, buildability constraints and scope gaps at the proposal stage, before they become commercial exposure.
- GA Drawings and Client Coordination
- Check and approve General Arrangement drawings prepared by the design team in Revit and AutoCAD.
- Present GA drawings to the client and the client's technical team, take them through the design intent, and close out comments to formal approval
- Review architectural, MEP and cast-in-situ drawings for structural compatibility and raise clashes and discrepancies in writing.
- Maintain a clear record of submissions, revisions and approvals so that the design status of every project is traceable at any point.
- Fabrication and Shop Drawings
- Check fabrication and shop drawings for reinforcement detailing, embedded items, lifting anchors, inserts, connection details and bar bending schedules.
- Verify that every drawing released to the factory is dimensionally correct, buildable and consistent with the approved GA.
- Develop and check erection drawings, sequence drawings and connection details for site.
- Take responsibility for the accuracy of released drawings; a drawing error that reaches the casting bed is a cost the company absorbs.
- Team Leadership
- Set and enforce drawing standards, layer conventions, title block discipline, revision control and checking protocol.
- Review and sign off the team's output, and develop their capability through structured feedback and on-the-job training.
- Plan design resource against the project pipeline and escalate early when capacity will not meet the programme.
- Production and Erection Coordination
- Work with the production team at the Sehore facility to ensure a smooth production flow and maximum mould and bed utilisation.
- Design with the factory in mind: standardise elements, repeat moulds wherever possible, and avoid details that slow down casting.
- Resolve technical queries from production and site erection teams quickly and decisively.
- Support the erection team on method, sequence, temporary stability and propping requirements. 7.
Value
Engineering
- Run value engineering on every project to eliminate excess concrete, reinforcement and embedded steel without compromising structural adequacy or durability.
- Optimise element sizes, spans,
reinforcement percentages and concrete grades for cost-effective production.
- Quantify and record the savings achieved on each exercise so the commercial benefit is visible.
- Challenge over-specification in incoming designs and put forward compliant, leaner alternatives to the client.
- Client and Stakeholder Communication
- Act as the day-to-day technical point of contact for the client and the client's technical team, consultants and proof checkers.
- Represent Modular Pulse in design review meetings, technical clarifications and value engineering workshops.
- Communicate technical positions clearly in writing, and keep correspondence complete enough to stand up in a contractual dispute.
- Support the business development and estimation teams with technical input during bids and negotiations. Experience
- 8 to 12 years in structural design, with a minimum of 5 years dedicated to precast concrete (mandatory).
- Proven experience of designing precast structures that have been manufactured and erected, not design office experience alone.
- Working exposure to precast factories and manufacturing environments, and an understanding of how the factory actually operates.
- Experience across infrastructure and industrial projects, modular construction systems and large-span precast structures.
- Hands-on design experience with double-T slabs, hollow-core slabs, wall panels, beam and column systems and steel connection detailing.
- Cast-in-situ RCC design experience is a strong advantage.
- Prior experience of leading or checking the work of a small design team. Software
- ETABS (mandatory).
- Autodesk Revit and Revit Structure, with BIM modelling from LOD 100 to LOD 500 (mandatory), covering conceptual modelling, detailed design, fabrication, construction documentation and as-built models.
- AutoCAD 2D and 3D for drafting and detailing (mandatory).
- STAAD.Pro (advantage).
- Ability to create and manage Revit families, coordinate multidisciplinary BIM models, run clash detection and maintain model accuracy through the project lifecycle.
- Microsoft Excel to a strong standard for design spreadsheets, quantity take-offs and schedules, and Microsoft Word for reports and correspondence.
Technical
Skills
- Solid command of precast concrete design principles and connection design.
- Structural analysis of both precast and cast-in-situ RCC systems.
- Lifting, handling, transportation and erection load cases, including temporary works and stability during erection.
- Reinforcement detailing and bar bending schedules to production standard.
- Familiarity with IS Codes, and with ACI, Eurocode or BS standards.
- Structural optimisation for cost-effective production.
- Sound understanding of concrete technology, mix design implications and precast manufacturing processes.
