Role: Business Analyst - OSDU Location: Noida /Bangalore Role Summary
We are looking for a senior Upstream Business Analyst with strong, hands-on expertise on the OSDU (Open Subsurface Data Universe) Data Platform. The role sits at the intersection of subsurface and wells business workflows and the OSDU cloud-native data architecture, covering the end-to-end delivery lifecycle – requirement analysis, functional and data design, development coordination, ingestion configuration, packaging and testing. The candidate should combine deep Upstream domain knowledge with practical technical experience across OSDU schemas, APIs, ingestion workflows and data mapping.
OSDU & Technical Skills
Hands-on experience on the OSDU Data Platform – any implementation (Azure Data Manager for Energy / ADME, AWS, Google Cloud, or open-source OSDU).
Strong grasp of OSDU concepts – reference architecture, Well-Known Schemas (WKS), data definitions, and Domain Data Management Services (DDMS) for Well, Wellbore, WellLog, Seismic and Reservoir.
Core OSDU services – Search, Storage, Indexer, Delivery, Legal, Entitlements, Unit, CRS/Frame-of-Reference and Schema services.
Data ingestion – manifest ingestion, CSV/DAG-based workflows, source-to-target data mapping and transformation rules.
Data modelling – JSON schemas, OSDU Schema Usage Guide, reference/master data and legal-tag configuration.
API tooling – REST APIs, Swagger/OpenAPI, Postman for OSDU service and integration testing.
Scripting/query skills – Python and SQL for data validation and quality checks; Power BI for reporting (good to have).
Cloud platform familiarity – Azure / AWS / GCP data services (relevant certification is a plus).
Domain
Skills & Experience
10–15 years in Oil & Gas Upstream IT, with solid understanding of exploration, geoscience, wells & drilling,
reservoir and production workflows.
Working knowledge of subsurface and wells data – well, wellbore, trajectory, well logs, markers, seismic and production data.
Understanding of Upstream data lifecycle – data acquisition, loading, quality, standardization and consumption by petro-technical applications.
Familiarity with petro-technical applications such as Petrel, Techlog, Kingdom, GeoFrame, ArcGIS and Energy Components.
Exposure to subsurface data formats – LAS/DLIS (well logs), SEG-Y/ZGY/OpenVDS (seismic), and legacy stores (Recall, OpenWorks, Finder).
Key Delivery Responsibilities : Design
Translate Upstream business and data requirements into functional and data design specifications mapped to OSDU schemas and services.
Define data mapping, ingestion manifests and transformation logic for subsurface and wells data.
Development
Work with developers to build and configure OSDU ingestion workflows, extensions, connectors and integrations with domain applications.
Author functional/technical specifications and support API-based integration between OSDU and Upstream applications.
Testing
Define and execute test scenarios, test cases and test data for functional, integration, API and regression testing.
Perform API/service testing (Postman) against OSDU endpoints; validate schema conformance and data integrity post-ingestion; support UAT and defect triage.
Packaging & Release
Support build, packaging, configuration management and milestone-release validation across environments.
Work within Agile/Scrum delivery using JIRA / Azure DevOps and maintain requirement-to-test traceability. Qualifications
Bachelor’s / Master’s in Petroleum, Geoscience, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related engineering discipline.
OSDU / Open Group or cloud (Azure ADME / AWS / GCP) certifications preferred.
