Job Summary The Field Service Engineer serves as the primary technical support contact for customers, providing on-site diagnostics, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of Cummins engines, aftertreatment systems, and related products.
This role is responsible for delivering timely and effective technical solutions, supporting warranty and aftermarket activities, conducting technical training, and collaborating with internal teams to improve product performance and customer satisfaction. The position requires robust technical expertise,
customer focus, and adherence to Cummins safety, quality, and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain Cummins engines, aftertreatment systems, power generation equipment, and related products at customer sites.
Perform vehicle-level analysis and troubleshoot engine, aftertreatment, fuel, electrical, cooling, exhaust, driveline, and control systems using approved service procedures and diagnostic tools.
Utilize electronic diagnostic tools, including Cummins INSITE, to identify faults, validate repairs, and support effective service resolution.
Perform component disassembly, inspection, rebuilding, and failure analysis of turbochargers, dosing systems, fuel systems, and other engine-related components.
Respond to customer service requests, field failures, and technical issues, ensuring timely resolution while minimizing equipment downtime.
Support Infant Care activities and address emerging field issues for Cummins and non-Cummins customers.
Investigate field failures, document root causes, and coordinate the dispatch of failed components to manufacturing for technical analysis.
Manage warranty cases, prepare warranty documentation,
and determine warranty disposition in accordance with company procedures.
Maintain accurate service documentation including service reports, warranty claims, troubleshooting records, timesheets, quality documents, and technical databases such as ePIR.
Provide technical support to Cummins Customer Care Centers (CCCs), Authorized Service Centers (ASCs), OEMs, dealers, and aftermarket customers.
Organize and deliver technical training programs for OEMs, dealers, service centers, and customers to improve product knowledge and service capability.
Conduct service center audits, evaluate repair quality, and implement corrective actions to improve operational performance and service standards.
Support the availability of service parts and enhance the technical capability of authorized service providers.
Escalate complex technical issues to higher levels of technical support while ensuring complete documentation of troubleshooting activities.
Coach customers on preventive maintenance practices and basic repair procedures to improve equipment reliability.
Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
Ensure compliance with Cummins Health, Safety, Environmental (HSE), quality, and regulatory requirements.
