Job Title: Engine Testing Engineer
Department: Engine Testing / Powertrain R&D; / Validation
Location: Hosur
Job Summary
Responsible for planning, executing, monitoring, and analyzing engine performance, durability, emissions, and validation tests on diesel/CNG/alternative-fuel engines. Ensure engines meet performance, reliability, regulatory, and customer requirements while supporting new product development and quality improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct engine performance, endurance, durability, and validation testing.
- Operate engine dynamometers and associated testing equipment.
- Prepare test engines and instrumentation before testing.
- Install sensors including:
- Temperature sensors
- Pressure sensors
- Flow meters
- Speed sensors
- Emissions measurement equipment
- Monitor engine parameters during testing.
- Record and analyze test data using data acquisition systems.
- Troubleshoot engine issues identified during testing.
- Investigate abnormal engine behavior and recommend corrective actions.
- Prepare detailed test reports with observations and conclusions.
- Support engine calibration and performance optimization.
- Coordinate with Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and Calibration teams.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures and laboratory standards.
- Maintain test benches, dynamometers, and measuring instruments.
- Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of IC engines (Diesel, CNG, LNG).
- Understanding of engine combustion and thermodynamics.
- Knowledge of engine performance and emissions testing.
- Experience with engine dynamometers.
- Familiarity with data acquisition systems.
- Ability to interpret engine performance maps and test data.
- Root cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Positive report writing and documentation.
- Basic knowledge of automotive standards and emission regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

- MATLAB (basic knowledge)
- Data acquisition software
- Engine ECU diagnostic tools

- Completion of engine tests as per schedule.
- Accuracy and quality of test data.
- Test bench utilization.
- Reduction in test failures through analysis.
- Timely submission of test reports.
- Compliance with safety and quality standards.
Working Setting
- Engine test laboratory.
- Dynamometer testing facility.
- Prototype engine development center.
- Manufacturing and validation environment.
- Rotational shifts may be required depending on test schedules.
