- Design mechanical assemblies, linkages, and mechanisms in CAD, including multi-DOF arm structures, gear trains, and pulley/belt drive systems
- Select, size, and tune motors and drives (stepper, servo, or BLDC) for the intended mechanism
- Develop and debug embedded firmware for motor control on microcontrollers
- Program and integrate PLC-based control logic for industrial-grade systems
- Configure and troubleshoot RS485/CAN/Modbus communication between controllers and drives
- Perform kinematic calculations (forward/inverse) for multi-axis mechanisms
- Read and debug PCB-level driver boards; collaborate with electronics teams on interface design
- Apply GD&T; and tolerancing appropriate to the chosen manufacturing method (machining, 3D printing, or sheet metal)
- Make sound design-for-manufacture (DFM) decisions based on realistic fabrication capability
- Design end-effectors, grippers, and mechanism enclosures as needed
- Maintain clear technical documentation of designs, revisions, and test results
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatro Role & responsibilities
Preferred candidate profile
- 2+ years of hands-on experience designing and building physical mechanical/robotic systems (substantial academic project work will be considered)
- Working proficiency in an MCAD tool such as SolidWorks,
Fusion 360, or Creo
- Practical experience with motor control stepper, servo, or BLDC — including driver selection and tuning
- PLC programming experience (ladder logic or structured text)
- Working knowledge of embedded C/C++ on microcontrollers (STM32, ESP32, or similar)
- Understanding of RS485/CAN/Modbus communication protocols
- Ability to perform kinematic calculations for multi-DOF mechanisms
- Comfortable reading electrical schematics and basic PCB layouts
- Familiarity with GD&T;, tolerancing, and manufacturing methods (CNC machining, 3D printing, sheet metal)
- Solid documentation habits and comfort working from vendor datasheets/manuals independently
- Experience with version control (Git) is a plus
Good to Have
- Experience designing end-effectors or gripper mechanisms
- Exposure to safety-rated E-stops or interlocks on physical machines
- Prior experience in a regulated or safety-critical engineering environment
What We're Looking For
Someone who is equally comfortable at a CAD workstation and at a workbench with a multimeter or oscilloscope in hand — not purely a designer or purely a coder, but someone who can own a mechanism from concept through to a working, controlled machine.
