About Drafty AI

Drafty AI turns 3D CAD models into production-ready 2D manufacturing drawings. We are SOLIDWORKS-native and process everything in-tool, so a customer's geometry never leaves their machine. Our engine pairs a deterministic rules layer with machine learning to produce release-ready drawings, flat patterns, bills of materials and exports, and to flag only the drawings that genuinely need a person.

We are early, backed by RudraX, and already running pilots with UK manufacturers. This is a chance to build the core of the product, not to maintain someone else's.

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer who combines strong mechanical engineering fundamentals with an interest in emerging AI technologies. The ideal candidate will design and develop mechanical systems and products while leveraging AI-powered engineering tools to improve design quality, productivity, simulation, and documentation.

What You will do

Key Responsibilities:

• Design mechanical components, assemblies, and complete products from concept through production.

• Create detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and technical documentation.

• Perform engineering calculations, tolerance analysis, and design validation.

• Collaborate with electrical, software, manufacturing, and product teams during product development.

• Support prototyping, testing, design verification, and product improvements.

• Ensure designs comply with applicable engineering standards, safety requirements, and manufacturing constraints.

• Participate in design reviews and implement feedback throughout the product lifecycle.

• Optimize designs for manufacturability, cost, reliability, and performance.

• Utilize AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate design iterations, documentation,

and engineering analysis.

• Stay informed about advancements in AI applications within mechanical engineering and recommend opportunities for adoption.

What we're looking for -

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

• 4+ years of mechanical design experience (experience range can be adjusted).

• Robust proficiency in one or more CAD platforms such as SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, Siemens NX, Inventor, or Fusion 360.

• Experience creating manufacturing drawings compliant with GD&T; standards.

• Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, machining, sheet metal, plastics, and assembly methods.

• Understanding of DFM, DFA, tolerance stack-up, and engineering best practices.

• Experience with prototyping and product validation.

AI Familiarity (Required)

The successful candidate should have basic familiarity with AI technologies and modern engineering tools, including:

• Experience using AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or similar tools for engineering productivity.

• Understanding of how AI can assist in design ideation, documentation, coding, data analysis, and technical research.

• Ability to evaluate AI-generated outputs and validate them using engineering judgment.

• Interest in adopting AI-enabled engineering workflows.

• AI-assisted engineering workflows, technical documentation and design research

• Engineering data analysis using AI tools

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with FEA or CFD software (ANSYS, Abaqus, COMSOL, SolidWorks Simulation, etc.).

• Knowledge of PLM/PDM systems.

• Experience with rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing.

• Basic scripting knowledge (Python or MATLAB) is advantageous.

• Exposure to generative design or topology optimization tools.

• Familiarity with AI-driven CAD capabilities or simulation acceleration is a plus.

Technical Skills:

• Mechanical Design

• CAD Modeling • Product Development

• GD&T; • Design for Manufacturing (DFM)

• Design for Assembly (DFA) • Engineering Drawings
