About the role
We are developing an encapsulation system that lets electronics survive repeated machine washing — polymer coatings plus thermoplastic film lamination, applied over populated circuit boards and bonded into garments. We are building it as a product line: the chemistry, the machines that apply it, and the qualification data that proves it.
The process is not speculative. Our founding version was a programmable LED t-shirt built in 2011 that survived years of domestic machine washing. We are now turning that into a controlled, repeatable, sellable process.
You would be the first chemistry person in a team of mechanical and embedded engineers. You will not be fetching things. You will be mixing, curing, laminating.
What you will do
- Formulate and screen epoxy, polyurethane and thixotropic dam materials — weighing, mixing, degassing, cure scheduling
- Prepare test coupons and run adhesion testing (T-peel per ASTM D1876, cross-hatch per ASTM D3359)
- Run wash-durability, humidity and insulation-resistance trials, and record them properly
- Surface preparation and surface energy verification (dyne inks, contact angle)
- Help design and execute DOEs, and keep lab records that will still stand up as customer evidence two years from now
What we are looking for
- B.Tech / M.Sc / M.Tech in Polymer Science, Paint & Coatings Technology, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry with an organic or polymer emphasis. Candidates from CIPET, ICT and university polymer/coatings departments are especially welcome.
- Real wet-lab hands: you have personally mixed and cured a thermoset, not only read about one
- Working grasp of stoichiometry, cure kinetics, Tg, and filler loading effects
- Able to handle isocyanates, amine hardeners and solvents safely, and to follow PPE discipline without being reminded
- Meticulous record keeping. In this work an unrecorded parameter is a lost experiment.
Useful but not required: PCB or electronics assembly exposure, conformal coating or potting experience, hands-on FTIR / DSC / rheometer / tensile tester, DOE or statistics coursework.
Details
- On-site at our Hyderabad office. This role is not remote or hybrid.
- Stipend: ₹12,000 per month
- Start: within one week of offer
- Duration: [3 months], with a full time offer for the right person
- A signed NDA and IP assignment is required before lab access. Our formulations are protected as trade secrets.
