Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Costing Engineer with deep expertise in precision machining and manufacturing processes. In this role, you will estimate the manufacturing costs of various machined components, analyze supplier quotes, support value engineering initiatives, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure cost-effective product development from concept to production.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Estimation & Quotation:

Develop accurate, bottom-up manufacturing cost estimates for turned, milled, ground, and multi-axis machined parts from engineering drawings and CAD models.

Calculate cycle times based on material removal rates, cutting speeds, feeds, setup times, and tool changeover.

Estimate raw material requirements, scrap rates, and material utilization (e.g., bar stock, forgings, castings).

Process & Operation Analysis:

Evaluate manufacturing feasibility and recommend the most cost-effective machining processes and routings.

Account for secondary operations such as heat treatment, surface finishing, plating, deburring, and quality inspection (CMM).

Data Management & Reporting:

Maintain and update cost databases, standard labor rates, machine hour rates, and material price trends.

Prepare comprehensive cost variance reports and bid summaries for management review.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Education: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field.

Experience: 2 to 4 years of hands-on experience in manufacturing cost estimation, process planning, or production engineering within a machining/CNC setting.

Technical Knowledge

Strong understanding of CNC machining processes (Turning, Milling, Drilling, Grinding, EDM).

Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings, GD&T; (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and CAD models.

Familiarity with various engineering materials (stainless steels, aluminum, titanium, plastics).

Working knowledge of machine shop economics (machine hour rates, overheads, labor costs, tooling amortization).
