Machine Learning engineer role

Role Overview

Build, optimise and operate production-grade AI and LLM-powered applications in Beazley Azure infrastructure, ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and governed releases.

Key Responsibilities

- Backend Development:
- Develop Python FastAPI services for end-to-end AI workflows (ingestion, processing, persistence, response handling) with robust error handling and scalability.
- Shared Libraries:
- Contribute to and adopt shared utility libraries with proper versioning, backward compatibility, and clear rollout strategies.
- CI/CD & Testing:
- Manage pipelines across environments with solid testing (unit, integration) and controlled release processes.
- Authentication & Security:
- Implement Entra ID (Azure AD) authentication, JWT validation, and secure access controls. Use Managed Identity & RBAC for service-to-service communication.
- AI Integration:
- Integrate with Azure OpenAI (LLMs, embeddings) and implement retrieval patterns with resilient,



rate-controlled interactions.
- Data & Storage:
- Work with PostgreSQL and Azure Blob Storage for application data, metadata, and documents.
- Observability:
- Implement monitoring (Application Insights/Azure Monitor) covering performance, errors, and key workflows.
- Governance & Responsible AI:
- Ensure secure engineering, traceability, and compliance with enterprise governance and Responsible AI standards.

Required Skills

- Strong experience in Python (3.10 ), FastAPI
- Strong experience with resource-bound async programming
- Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, GitHub workflows
- Knowledge of PostgreSQL, object storage, IaC (Terraform)
- Hands-on with Entra ID, JWT, Managed Identity, RBAC
- Experience integrating Azure OpenAI / LLM-based solutions
- Comfortable working in enterprise, regulated environments
