Lab Technician (Physical Testing) (In-House Lab)

Department: Quality Assurance

Reports To: QA Manager

Job Purpose

Responsible for conducting physical testing of fabrics, trims, and finished garments to verify compliance with buyer specifications and applicable AATCC / ISO / ASTM physical test methods.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct fabric physical tests: GSM, shrinkage (wash/dry), bursting strength, pilling / abrasion resistance, spirality / skewness.
- Conduct colourfastness tests limited to physical/mechanical methods: rubbing/crocking fastness (dry & wet)
- Perform trim physical testing: button pull, snap pull, zipper pull/slider function, elastic recovery
- Test finished garment measurements against spec sheets and grading rules
- Record and maintain test reports, TDS (Test Data Sheets), and lab logbooks accurately
- Calibrate and maintain physical testing equipment (crock meter, tensile, GSM cutter, Martindale abrasion tester, shrinkage templates, etc.)
- Flag non-conformances and escalate to QA Manager with corrective action recommendations




- Coordinate with buyers' third-party labs for cross-verification of physical test results
- Maintain lab consumables and calibration schedules
- Ensure lab operates per safety protocols (equipment handling, PPE use)
- Support merchandising/sourcing teams with timely test turnaround for approvals

Required Qualifications

- Diploma/Degree in Textile Technology or related field
- 2–5 years of hands-on physical lab testing experience in a garment/textile manufacturing setup
- Working knowledge of AATCC, ISO, ASTM physical test methods

Key Skills

- Proficiency with physical testing instruments
- Attention to detail and data accuracy
- Basic MS Excel/reporting skills
- Ability to work under production timelines

Key Interfaces Sourcing, Merchandising, QA/QC, NQAs, Buyer QA teams, Third-party testing labs.

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
