Sports is one of the last major industries still running on spreadsheets, WhatsApp groups, and paper attendance registers. SurgeACE exists to change that.

We’re building the operating system for sports organizations — a single AI-powered platform that helps academies, studios, and clubs manage everything from lead capture and admissions to athlete progress, coaching operations, scheduling, payments, and customer engagement. Where most software in this space stops at "digitizing a register," we’re going further: embedding AI across the platform so that owners, coaches, and administrators spend less time on operations and more time on the athletes in front of them.

We’re early enough that the architecture decisions made this year will shape the product for the next five. We’re serious enough that we’re hiring senior engineers who’ve built and scaled real B2B SaaS products before. This is a builder’s stage.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Java Technical Lead who still writes code every single day — someone who leads a small, agile engineering team by being the best engineer in the room, not just the one running standup.

You’ll own the technical direction of a core part of our platform: designing the backend architecture, building scalable APIs and microservices, and making the calls on how we scale, secure, and modernize our systems as we grow. At the same time, you’ll mentor the engineers around you, raise the bar on code quality, and help build an engineering culture that people are proud to be part of.

Technical Skills (Must-Have)

- 8+ years of professional experience in Java
- Spring Boot
- PostgreSQL and strong SQL fundamentals
- REST API design and development
- Microservices architecture
- AWS (cloud-native deployment and operations)
- Docker
- Git and contemporary CI/CD practices
- System design and distributed systems
- Performance optimization and strong debugging skills
- Agile development practices
- Proven engineering leadership — code reviews, architecture reviews, mentoring
- Hands-on coding as a daily practice, not a memory
- Excellent written and verbal communication

Nice to Have

- Kubernetes
- Working understanding of React.js
- Experience at a startup or high-growth product company
- SaaS product experience (multi-tenant systems, subscription models, usage-based scaling)
- Experience integrating AI/LLM capabilities into a production product
- Prompt engineering, RAG, or MCP exposure
- Vector databases
- Event-driven architecture, Redis/caching, and messaging queues (Kafka, SQS, or similar)
