The Head of Housekeeping is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the overall environmental hygiene, sanitation, and soft services across all areas of the hospital. This role ensures the highest standards of cleanliness, infection control, patient safety, and regulatory compliance while efficiently managing budgets, departmental inventory, staff recruitment, and staff scheduling.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

1. Infection Control & Operational Hygiene

- Establish, enforce, and maintain strict infection prevention and control standards aligned with hospital protocols and international/national healthcare accreditations (e.g., NABH, JCI).
- Oversee bio-medical waste segregation, handling, and safe disposal protocols.
- Supervise deep cleaning, terminal cleaning of Operating Theaters (OTs), ICUs, patient rooms, and general ward sanitization schedules.

2. Team Leadership & Staff Management

- Lead, mentor, and manage supervisors, housekeeping assistants, and floor staff.
- Coordinate recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance evaluations for all department personnel.
- Create and manage duty rosters, daily shift allocations, and leave schedules to ensure uninterrupted 24/7 service coverage.

and adherence to departmental standards.

3. Inventory, Budgeting & Vendor Management

- Prepare and manage the annual housekeeping budget, maintaining billing summaries and tracking monthly departmental expenses.
- Oversee the purchasing, reordering, and inventory control of cleaning chemicals, consumables, linen, and operational equipment.
- Liaise with third-party vendors, suppliers, and external service agencies to ensure quality service delivery and cost efficiency.

4. Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement

- Conduct routine and surprise inspections across all hospital departments to monitor cleanliness standards and safety.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance patient and staff satisfaction while controlling operational costs.
- Maintain records and documentation of periodic cleaning schedules, maintenance activities, and audit reports.

5. Interdepartmental Coordination

- Collaborate closely with the Engineering/Maintenance team for routine and preventive maintenance of furniture, fixtures, and facility infrastructure.
- Work in alignment with Nursing, Infection Control, and Patient Care teams to resolve guest/patient complaints promptly.
