Job Duties & Responsibilities:
The Citrix Engineer / Senior Application Delivery Administrator is responsible for the operation, reliability, automation, and lifecycle management of the organization’s Citrix and virtual desktop platforms. This role owns the image management process, ensuring master images, application layers, machine catalogs, delivery groups, and session hosts remain current, secure, and optimized. The engineer will automate repeatable Citrix administration tasks wherever practical, reduce manual effort, and improve consistency across environments.
This position also serves as the Level 3 escalation point for complex Citrix, VDI, application delivery, profile, authentication, printing, and performance issues, working closely with infrastructure, networking, endpoint, security, and service desk teams to deliver a reliable and scalable user experience.
· Own day-to-day administration, maintenance, and support of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Citrix DaaS, StoreFront, Citrix Gateway/NetScaler, Machine Creation Services, Provisioning Services where applicable, Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365, Remote Desktop Services, VMware Horizon, and related end-user computing platforms.
· Take primary responsibility for image lifecycle management, including master image maintenance, patching, application updates, image versioning, testing, promotion, rollback planning, and documentation.
· Maintain and update machine catalogs, delivery groups, published applications, desktops, host pools, workspaces, session hosts, access policies, and user assignments in accordance with operational standards.
· Develop, maintain, and improve automation for Citrix and VDI operations using PowerShell, Citrix SDKs, Azure CLI, REST APIs, infrastructure-as-code practices, or comparable automation frameworks.
· Automate repeatable processes such as image updates, catalog updates, application publishing, health checks, capacity reporting, service restarts, user/session diagnostics, and routine maintenance activities.
· Provide Level 3 escalation support for complex Citrix, VDI, application delivery, authentication, profile, printing, peripheral, launch, connectivity, and session performance issues.
· Monitor platform availability, capacity, performance, user experience, and session health; proactively identify trends, risks, recurring issues, and opportunities for operational improvement.
· Lead or support platform upgrades, patching, lifecycle management, certificate renewals, configuration changes, vulnerability remediation,
and security hardening for application delivery infrastructure components.
· Support application layering, profile management, session host maintenance, desktop optimization, and user environment management across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
· Partner with Service Desk and Level 2 support teams to improve escalation quality, reduce repeat incidents, document known fixes, and shift repeatable tasks to lower support tiers where appropriate.
· Integrate application delivery platforms with Active Directory, Entra ID, Group Policy, DNS, certificates, multifactor authentication, conditional access, endpoint security, monitoring, and logging tools.
· Work closely with Networking, Systems Services, TechOps, Platform Engineering, Security, Development, Client Success, vendors, and other information services teams to resolve technical issues and ensure standards are applied consistently.
· Participate in capacity planning, cost optimization, scalability initiatives, resilience planning, and modernization efforts to support business growth and evolving technology needs.
· Create and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, operational runbooks, standard operating procedures, automation documentation, and knowledge articles.
· Provide technical guidance, knowledge transfer, and mentoring to junior administrators, endpoint teams, and support personnel.
· Participate in on-call rotations and provide escalation-level support as needed.
· Escalate complex architectural, security, or service-impacting issues appropriately to leadership or subject matter experts.
· Communicate effectively with peers, management, vendors, and internal customers as needed.
· Possess strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Knowledge & Qualifications
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; or 5+ years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ideal candidate will have 5+ years of hands-on experience administering Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Citrix DaaS, VDI, or enterprise application delivery platforms, with demonstrated ownership of image management, automation, and Level 3 support in on-premises, cloud, or hybrid environments. The candidate should have strong working knowledge of the following:
· Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Citrix DaaS, StoreFront, Citrix Gateway/NetScaler, Machine Creation Services, Provisioning Services, Delivery Controllers, VDAs, machine catalogs, delivery groups, and published applications
· Image lifecycle management, including master image creation, patching, application updates, image versioning, testing, promotion, rollback, and catalog updates
· Windows Server, Windows 10/11, session host administration, operating system optimization, patch management, and enterprise software deployment practices
· Automation and scripting using PowerShell, Citrix SDKs, Azure CLI, REST APIs, infrastructure-as-code tools, or comparable automation frameworks
· Troubleshooting complex Level 3 issues involving application launch, authentication, user profiles, printing, peripheral redirection, session performance, network connectivity, and user experience
· Active Directory, Entra ID, Group Policy, DNS, certificates, authentication, multifactor authentication, and conditional access concepts
· User profile technologies such as FSLogix, Citrix Profile Management, roaming profiles, folder redirection, or similar profile management solutions
· Cloud and virtualization platforms such as Microsoft Azure, VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, or other enterprise virtualization technologies
· Networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, firewalls, load balancing, secure remote access, and hybrid connectivity
· Monitoring, logging, and troubleshooting tools such as Citrix Director, Citrix Monitor, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, event logs, platform analytics, and related operational toolsets
· Preferred certifications may include Citrix CCA-V, CCP-V, CCE-V, Microsoft AZ-104, AZ-140, VMware Horizon, ITIL Foundation, CompTIA Network+, or CompTIA Security+
· Able to work in an office environment with minimal supervision.
