The Doon School seeks to appoint a well-qualified and effective Career Counsellor. The successful applicant must have passion and an unwavering belief in the difference that they can make. We deliver an innovative curriculum that develops skills, thinking and process, leading to CISCE and IBDP programmes. A high school career counsellor plays a crucial role in assisting students with academic, personal, and career development. The primary objective of the counsellor will be to guide students in making informed decisions about their education and future careers.

Requirements

- A Master s degree is the minimum requirement for the position of counsellor.
- Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years experience in a similar role.
- Candidates must also have excellent communication skills and the emotional intelligence to build strong relationships with students, colleagues and parents alike.

Responsibilities

- Provide guidance on course selection, academic planning, and study habits.
- Assist students in setting academic and career goals and monitoring their progress.
- Conduct assessments to help students identify their interests, skills, and values.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support students academic and career goals.
- Work closely with other school professionals to address students holistic needs.

College and Career Exploration:

- Guide students in exploring various career options and understanding the educational requirements for different professions.
- Provide information about colleges, universities, vocational programs, and other post-secondary options.
- Explore career options and provide information about different professions and industries.
- Organise and conduct college fairs, career workshops, and informational sessions to expose students to diverse opportunities.
- Stay informed about current trends in education, career paths, and college admissions.

College Application Process and Support

- Guide students through the college application process, including selecting suitable colleges and universities.
- Provide accurate information on admission requirements, standardised tests (PSAT, SAT, ACT, AP ), and application deadlines.
- Assist with scholarship and financial aid applications.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment for students to discuss concerns or challenges.
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, and other professionals to support students overall development.
- Conduct one-on-one counselling sessions with students to address specific needs and concerns.

Documentation and Record Keeping

- Maintain accurate records of counselling sessions and student progress.
- Prepare reports and documentation for college applications, scholarships, and other relevant purposes.
