About the Role: We are looking for a passionate and skilled Backend Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems that power technology products used by millions of students, teachers, and government stakeholders across India. This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll develop production-grade APIs, backend services, and data workflows while collaborating closely with product managers, frontend developers, AI/ML engineers, QA, and DevOps teams. You will contribute to building secure, reliable, and high-performance systems that operate effectively in real-world environments, including low-bandwidth networks and high-concurrency assessment cycles.

Beyond feature development, you will participate in system design discussions, troubleshoot production issues, optimize application performance, and continuously improve the quality and reliability of our engineering practices. Roles And Responsibilities Develop, enhance, and maintain scalable backend services, RESTful APIs, and data processing workflows.

Write clean, efficient, well-structured, and production-ready code that follows engineering best practices.

Design and optimize database schemas, data models, queries, and indexing strategies for performance and scalability.

Build and optimize backend components, including API performance, caching mechanisms, background jobs, and asynchronous processing.

Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues by identifying root causes and implementing sustainable solutions.

Collaborate with Product,



Frontend, QA, DevOps, and AI/ML teams to deliver end-to-end features and seamless user experiences.

Continuously improve the reliability, security, scalability, observability, and maintainability of backend applications.

Contribute to system design discussions by evaluating technical approaches and recommending practical, scalable solutions.

Conduct code reviews, share constructive feedback, and promote coding standards and engineering best practices across the team.

Required Qualifications & Technical Skills Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (preferred).

3–6 years of hands-on experience in backend software development.

Strong proficiency in one or more backend programming languages such as Python, Node.js, Java, Go, or equivalent technologies.

Sound understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming, and clean coding principles.

Proven experience designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs.

Strong knowledge of database design, schema modelling, indexing, query optimization, and relational or NoSQL databases.

Experience working with backend frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, Flask, Express.js, Spring Boot, or similar.

Good understanding of authentication, authorization, API security, exception handling, and secure coding practices.

Hands-on experience with Git, Docker, debugging tools, logging, and deployment workflows.

Ability to write scalable, maintainable, and production-ready code while following software engineering best practices.

Preferred Qualifications Experience with technologies such as FastAPI, Django, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, or similar backend technologies.

Experience building and optimizing high-traffic, high-performance backend systems.

Familiarity with asynchronous programming, caching strategies, background workers, and message queue architectures.

Experience developing backend services for mobile applications.

Exposure to integrating AI/ML models into production applications.

Prior experience working in EdTech, GovTech, HealthTech, or other mission-driven technology organizations.

Proficiency in Hindi and/or Marathi will be an added advantage.
