Company Overview :
AMD is a global leader in high-performance computing, graphics, and visualization technologies. The company designs and integrates technology that powers millions of devices, including personal computers, game consoles, and data center servers. With a focus on pushing the boundaries of silicon innovation, AMD enables the digital experiences that define the modern era, operating at the intersection of hardware architecture and software optimization to solve the world's most complex computational challenges.
Role Overview :
As a Systems Design Engineer for RAS (Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability) Enablement, you will play a critical role in ensuring the robustness of AMD's next-generation x86 platforms. You will work at the intersection of hardware architecture and system-level validation, collaborating with cross-functional silicon design, firmware, and software teams to identify and mitigate potential failure points. Your work directly impacts the stability and performance of high-end computing systems, ensuring that our products meet the rigorous reliability standards required by enterprise and data center customers.
Key Responsibilities :
- Architect and define comprehensive RAS features for x86 platforms to ensure system resilience against hardware and software faults.
- Drive the end-to-end reliability testing strategy, covering error injection, recovery mechanisms, and system reset flows to validate design integrity.
- Collaborate with silicon design and firmware engineering teams to debug complex system-level issues and implement robust error-handling protocols.
- Develop advanced validation methodologies and automation frameworks to accelerate the identification of reliability bottlenecks during the pre-silicon and post-silicon phases.
- Partner with global stakeholders to translate customer requirements into actionable hardware and firmware specifications, ensuring seamless platform integration.
Required Skillset :
- Demonstrated expertise in x86 hardware architecture, specifically focusing on CPU, memory, and I/O subsystem reliability.
- Proven ability to design and execute complex system validation plans, with a deep understanding of reset flows, error reporting, and fault-tolerant system design.
- Robust analytical skills to perform root-cause analysis on intermittent system failures and hardware-software interaction issues.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively bridge the gap between architectural design teams and platform validation engineers across global sites.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, hybrid work environment, demonstrating technical leadership to mentor junior engineers and influence design decisions.
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, with 8 to 24 years of relevant industry experience in hardware systems or reliability engineering.
