Executive Vice President (EVP) Construction / Operations / Business Strategy
Department: Projects / Construction
Reporting To: CEO / Managing Director / Business Head
Role Overview
The Executive Vice President (EVP) – Construction will provide overall leadership, strategic direction, and execution excellence across all construction projects. This role requires strong techno-commercial acumen and proven leadership capability to manage large-scale industrial and infrastructure projects, ensuring timely delivery, cost efficiency, superior quality, and strict adherence to safety standards. The incumbent will also play a key role in driving business growth and operational scalability.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership
- Define and execute construction strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
- Drive business growth through operational excellence and superior project delivery capabilities.
- Contribute to business planning, budgeting, and expansion initiatives.
2. Project Execution & Delivery
- Oversee end-to-end execution of multiple construction projects across locations.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and as per defined quality standards.
- Monitor progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
- Review and approve project schedules, methodologies, and execution plans.
3. Technical & Operational Oversight
- Provide leadership across civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and infrastructure execution (as applicable).
- Ensure adherence to engineering standards, statutory requirements, and safety norms.
- Drive adoption of best-in-class construction practices, digital tools, and innovative methodologies.
4. Commercial & Financial Management
- Ensure project profitability through effective cost control and financial discipline.
- Oversee contract management, vendor negotiations, and billing certifications.
- Manage cash flow, budgeting, and financial planning across projects.
5. Team & Resource Leadership
- Lead and mentor Project Heads, Construction Managers, and site teams.
- Build high-performance teams and ensure robust succession planning.
- Establish performance management frameworks with clear accountability.
6. Stakeholder Management
- Engage with clients, consultants, government authorities, and internal stakeholders.
- Represent the organization in strategic discussions and high-value client engagements.
- Build long-term relationships to enhance client satisfaction and repeat business.
7. Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure rigorous implementation of HSE standards across all project sites.
- Drive a zero-incident safety culture and robust quality assurance systems.
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements.
Qualifications
- B.E. / B. Tech in Civil Engineering (preferred)
- M. Tech and/or MBA (Project Management / Operations) is desirable
- Certifications such as PMP, Chartered Engineer, or equivalent will be an added advantage
Experience
- 15–25 years of experience in construction and project management
- Proven track record in delivering large-scale industrial and infrastructure projects (EPC, Steel, Power, Cement, Ports, etc.)
- Experience in managing multi-location projects and large cross-functional teams
- Prior leadership experience at GM / AVP / VP level or equivalent
